Baton Rouge Police Killing a 37-year-old black man at point blank range

So now the question is 'did he or did he not have a gun with him at the time' ....

Even if he HAD a gun with him, did that make it OK for the officer to shoot him?

Does carrying a gun make police officers paranoia about what you might do?

Having a gun absolutely raises an officers alertness.

Also it depends on what you do with said gun.

To the earlier posts. Officers are white and the victim is black.

I won't argue against the take down as I haven't seen to much prior to that. But the shots fired are insane. He's pinned down and restrained. Horrible.

This. **** like this will make me sick to my stomach. Cy and I are two of the biggest douches on this board but almost all of what we do is in jest. Deep down I consider myself a very good human being and I'm sure Cy's no different. I say that because I think we both "get it" here. For those of you who have watched that, God bless you and I'll take your word of what you believe took place.

If you are not man enough to watch here is what happened. Police tackles the guy behind a car. The man is clearly struggling. In supine position one officer has left arm secured. Right arm is struggling an appears to be reaching in to his pocket or wasteband. Cop on his right arm yells he's got a gun (which he was presumably reaching for). Cop on right side attempts to secure the firearm while cop on left side shoots him in the head. Homicide recovered a gun on him after shot. ("Was planted" )

I do not get the knee jerk reaction to a obscured video. I will wait for police an internal affair investigation to make my judgement.

How convenient for the body cameras to fall off.

Body cameras are magnetically attached. You do not think it is easy to fall off in a tussle? Or is this more anti-cop conspiracy? Because I can clearly see the officers ripping them off during the tussle. Video footage on them is there to prove they did not but we should place blame regardless.

Public opinion has already decided what happened
This will not end well :(

That is the unfortunate world we live in. Yet here we are. The Advocate newspaper in Baton Rouge already wrote about the issues these PILOT cameras have an how BRPD was trying new ones. Did that stop people like #bern from jumping to conclusions? At least I believe he will not riot an burn a city down.

Just saw a video of incident
Why do people black or white resist officers when the odds are overwhelmingly against them.
Wow. If officer just used pepper spray first this might not have happened.

Fight or flight reaction/fear

Apparently they tazzed him with no results, so I'm not sure pepper spray would have changed much.

Another black man was shot by police today in Minnysota under questionable circumstances. I don't like police shootings. I think it is a big concern for all of us. But I see how African Americans feel like they are being targeted.

I'm not black, heck I didn't even meet an African American until I was 19, even now I admittedly have very little understanding of what it's like to be black in America. But I tried to imagine if I was a minority under similar circumstances what would I think, and concluded I would feel like we were being targeted. I wish no one ever felt that way.

I'm sad, I hoped Obama would be a leader for improving race relations in the USA. It didn't happen, the situation is probably worse.

You should watch the mini series 'Roots' ... it tells the story of how a young boy in Africa got to America via the slave trade in the 1800s ... it was an eye opening experience for me and provides a small glimpse into what it would have been like living as a black slave in those days.
