Baton Rouge Police Killing a 37-year-old black man at point blank range

You mean like Lincoln? JFK? MLK?

Srsly it ain't fair to lay any of this on Obama or a lack of leadership in general. Leadership often incites violence. What kind of things could Obama have done as a leader to prevent this?

Implement gun control.

O wait.

The "person of interest", carrying a rifle legally, was a brother to an organizer of the Black Lives Matter rally.

shooters were apparently of a like mind with the BLM cause, assuming no conspiracy to give the BLM a neg press, I guess.

In hindsight this turned out to be a **** post & inaccurate, surprising no one

Quick question for gun experts... in the US, can anyone with a license buy and own a long range rifle?

and in many places they can openly carry firearms

this link seems to have good information about the specific Dallas situation and US gun carry laws in general
https://qz.com/726802/in-much-of-america-its-impossible-to-tell-a-sniper-from-someone-casually-carrying-a-rifle-to-a-protest/

at least I haven't (yet) heard that tired trope about the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun - sometimes it takes a robot with a bomb device...

You don't need a license of any kind. You do have to prove your identity, but you don't even need a driver's license.

Is it legal or not that i (tourist and not an US citizen) help to carry guns a la from car to house? Can a US gun owner let me do some practise shooting in his private property using his/her guns assuming it is not a dangerous to other persons who might wander around the area. I think in Estonia it is illegal to carry the gun of the licensed owner even if it is very short distance.

Leadership isn't just Obama making speeches at the podium.

Its members of congress & senators acting on the desires of their citizens. The failure of "leadership" is when you hear things like 70% of citizens wanting public health care & no one delivering. Or when most citizens want increased gun control & no-one delivering.

Unfortunately I can't see these atrocities getting any better, and I'm betting on them getting worse.

I said those in leadership. Duh. You really think I needed to be told this?
Leadership comes from many places and at many levels, ideally.

These snipers have to be trained to have done this much damage... would be interested to know who these guys are.

This is inaccurate. Anyone with a knowledge of firearms and some practice with the right gun could do this. FE, I shot my first deer at the age of 15 with a scoped, bolt action 7mm. Deer/Elk hunting in Utah is big, and you'd probably be surprised how many people own guns that could be considered sniper rifles. I'm guessing the weapon used here was probably a semi-auto, and other than that was pretty similar to the deer guns that I grew up shooting.

Gun laws vary from state to state, and handgun laws tend to be stricter than for long guns. Federal law says that you can only buy handguns in the state in which you reside, while long guns are not restricted in the same way.

lol. This is just so plain wrong.

Unfortunately, a large segment of our population doesn't see the problems with this.

I saw on Facebook today, a huge advocate of the 2nd amendment and would fight you tooth and nail against any sensible gun regulation blasting the black man In Louisiana. He blamed him for being killed by police. If only he hadn't shown his gun and resisted arrest hed still be alive.

Apparently, blacks can't show their handguns to anyone without being harassed while whites can march into a chipotle carrying an AR15 around their bodies and go unmolested.

Sigh

LOL - I can tell you in Texas pretty much anything goes. You can buy a gun, rifle, whatever, this morning, as long as it's used, through about a hundred different trade papers.

No license, background check...nothing.

I had a co-worker in Texas (my boss actually) that had owned about 30 guns in his lifetime - everyone of them purchased through a gun show or used.
