Baton Rouge Police Killing a 37-year-old black man at point blank range

I find police, sheriffs, state troopers and other gun-toting officials generally responsible to such a high degree of ethics, speaking of my own "white" experience..... even black officers..... that I'm biased or prejudiced against the cop critics.

I don't think I could match the general level of discipline if I ran a unit. Must hand out massive respect for these folks. The press looks like "yellow journalism".

Boris, you annoy even me. Be ashamed to make reasonable differences of opinion actually offensive to those who need to see the light.

You want me to be ashamed of the truth an the obvious? Are they really oblivious to the message they are sending police an the fallout they cause? Can they really feel no guilt for contributing to a environment of hate?

We have a judicial system. We have Internal Affairs. Obama has sent in the feds. We do not need to foster a environment conducive to rioting an police shootings. Especially when we aready have clear evidence police were justified.

Without a doubt, however, there is a certain percentage of leos that have no business wearing a uniform. Some of them get off on having power/authority over others, and are therefore more likely to abuse their position. Others simply don't have the mentality to be in intense situations that could potentially become life threatening, and are prone to overreact to possible threats. Both of these types are often to blame for things escalating when they wouldn't have otherwise, had they been handled differently. I do believe that most cops are good people, and are getting a bad rap due to the actions of a small percentage in most cases. That's not to say that there aren't entire forces in some areas that are completely ****ed up because the wrong individuals are running things.

You would make a great dictator. Just send in the tanks, eh Boris?

Unfortunately, a large segment of our population doesn't see the problems with this.

I saw on Facebook today, a huge advocate of the 2nd amendment and would fight you tooth and nail against any sensible gun regulation blasting the black man In Louisiana. He blamed him for being killed by police. If only he hadn't shown his gun and resisted arrest hed still be alive.

Apparently, blacks can't show their handguns to anyone without being harassed while whites can march into a chipotle carrying an AR15 around their bodies and go unmolested.

Sigh

A bold comment to make it more of a racial issue rather than focus on the tragedy itself. Way to go.

Like I've said earlier, justice hasn't been served in the same manner recently for civilians and law enforcement officers. I'm interested in seeing what happens to the Baton Rouge police officers and to yesterday's shooters... They should all never see the sunlight again in my book. It's not a matter of stirring the 2nd Amendment debate more than it is having justice be equal for all.

Then there's the unnecessarily added racial element, enlarged by the media.

Gun laws vary from state to state, and handgun laws tend to be stricter than for long guns. Federal law says that you can only buy handguns in the state in which you reside, while long guns are not restricted in the same way.

So even if i am just a tourist-foreigner and not a citizen of the USA i can still buy guns legally with only background check etc.? I thought that the 2nd Amendment applies only to US citizens, not foreigners.

I didn't say that at all. I don't really know if background checks can be done for non-citizens. Probably not. However, you could certainly buy one from a private citizen, and I doubt there is any law against it. This is probably the biggest single issue, as this is how people who can't pass a background check are able to buy guns.
