Bleacher: Gobert + Royce for Dinwiddie, Allen, LaVert

My guess is the cap drops and with it, contract amounts also decline inline.

Outside of Giannis, I really can't think of anyone in the association I would give the supermax to. It's just too much money.
Yep. A smaller cap makes a super max that much worse. Let's just say the cap goes down $20 million. That means MLE and other midrange contracts lose a few million each.

If you're a good player in that MLE area, do you take MLE from us at $5-6 million or maybe $2-3 million to play with LeBron or a bigger market? When the money was big and the MLE was reaching $10 million, that's a major boost over the BAE or even the minimum. If the cap tumbles, getting quality depth is going to be that much harder for small markets or noncontenders.

There is only once scenario where I think Gobert deserves the supermax - he carries us very far this summer. Due to Gobert, we go far and actually contend. Outside of that, there is not any scenario where he is worth supermax. If he has another okay playoffs, we gotta trade him especially if he expects super max.

The Kings could beat that package with Bagley included...and no one here has lauded Dinwiddie over the years more than me.. I swore up and down he was a 1st rd pick...

The asset you want included in any trade of Gobert is clearly the draft rights to James Wiseman...

so this type of theorycrafting is just too half-baked til the lottery settles..

I want Gobert to have a solid postseason but demand a supermax. I want Boston to have a disappointing postseason and feel the need for change.

Gobert for Jaylen Brown is perfect

We save a little money while getting a long term already signed dynamic wing to pair with Donovan. Go sign Favors and another rotation center in the off season. Re-sign Clarkson. Try to move Conley during the summer or by the deadline.

Only way Gobert gets a supermax is if his defense continues to be All-NBA and he put up 25 PPG with 15 boards.

That's not happening, but that's what it would take to get that contract.

The only thing I've seen that I'd kind of like would be something with Minnesota, Johnson's expiring/Culver/#3 the base, push for #16 as well. Keep Royce.

Would completely depend on if they were interested in pairing KAT with another big.

If the cap drops 20% or more this summer, then go ahead and give Rudy a supermax contract based on this year's cap. That would be the equivalent of giving Rudy an extension last year at the regular max or slightly below. Problem solved. Maybe make it 4 years instead of 5. Rudy's contract would then be tradable in a year and more valuable for having been extended.

Or you could send Gobert to Washington and have Washington send Beal to Minnesota. The question then is whether Gobert would be willing to extend with either Washington or Minnesota.

If Gobert doesn't flat out dominate in Orlando but still expects a super max, he has to be traded.

We have too good a roster to just let Gobert walk without getting value in return.

We lost Gordon for no assets and I distinctly remover this forum wanting Crowder or anything in return.

Exactly. A small market NBA team cannot afford to lose a top 25 calibur NBA player for nothing. Considering we are kind of asset poor due to the Conley trade, we really can't lose him for nothing.

We could lose Conley and Gobert in 2021 all while Ingles ages out and Bojan might too. We simply can't lose Gobert for nothing or give him much of our cap space.

Salary flexibility won’t mean much when we are giving $15M contracts to decent players, but nobody that is going to move the needle.

I would assume get draft picks as we can get them on friendly deals and control their future rights more easily through qualifying offers.
