Charlotte Bobcats starting center Al Jefferson left his team's Friday-night preseason game with the Miami Heat after suffering an ankle injury in the third quarter.

Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel originally thought it was a knee:
Al Jefferson being carried off to the locker room. Looks like a knee. That's not good, not good at all.

Joseph Goodman of the Miami Herald also tweeted about the incident:

Jefferson is entering his first year with the Bobcats after signing a three-year contract this offseason worth more than $40 million. He is expected to help Charlotte make significant strides this year alongside rookie Cody Zeller in the frontcourt.
The 28-year-old big man spent the last three seasons with the Utah Jazz. Before that, he also played for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Boston Celtics. Jefferson has career averages of 16.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
He had 11 points and seven rebounds in the exhibition before leaving the floor.
We'll continue to provide you information about the severity of the injury as it becomes available.
