Braziian Presidential Elections makes history today. Sad but historic

I wasn't a fan of this guy, but it was sad to see 5 kids and a wife without a father and husband "just like that"

I agree. This guy had a family and more than likely wasn't a bad man. Sucks to see soemthing like this.

Has something like this happened before anywhere else?

I'm sure that type of thing has happened somewhere. However, the only similar incident I found in US history by searching just now was this, "the only [U.S.] election in which a presidential candidate died during the electoral process":
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_1872

Apparently the candidate died after the popular vote (vote of the people), but before the official electoral vote (vote of the "electoral college", i.e. the representatives of the states who officially declare the president). But since he lost anyway, Horace Greeley's death didn't impact the election. If he had won, though, I'm not at all sure what would have happened.

There have been a number of deaths of politicians immediately prior to the election in which they were running.

The most recent example I can think of in the United States was the death of Mel Carnahan during his race for Senate against John Ashcroft. Carnahan was, in fact, elected posthumously and his wife was appointed in his place. This ultimately led to to John Ashcroft becoming Attorney General during the Bush II administration.

What is a sbro?

i prefer my politicians dead.

politicians are scum of the earth.

so who cares.

Dutch is gonna Dutch.

By "Dutch" I mean something I'd probably have to vote myself an infraction for, so I'll refrain. Though I could spare one I guess.

I wasn't going to vote for him, but got pretty sad since he was a father of 5.

Yeah, speaking of Dutch, or the Dutch, it happened to this guy:

He was assassinated during his run. I'm sure Dutch cheered it up.

On another note that guy got out of prison after a whopping 12 years for assassinating a political opponent. That's shocking to me. Apparently Fortuyn supporters have vowed to kill him, though they haven't yet. I'm not for vigilante justice, but considering the punishment is so light for first degree murder there, I'm sort of surprised it hasn't happened (I take it back...according to an article I read this murder gave Holland a new tough on crime approach to murders, and now life sentences are more common there).

the netherlands is Turribley lenient when it comes to crime.

You seriously negged me for that?? Can't you recognize a joke?

Compared to how many negs I get from you that consist of "inappropriate", I'd say you're getting off lite. Also, the irony of Colton, the least funny/tolerant, poop and fart joke scowling, mommy-mod there has ever been, asking if someone recognizes a joke...

*slaps knee*

Exactly one in the past year. (And 10 pos reps, for what it's worth.)

And yet for all my flaws, I've never given someone a neg rep over a lighthearted joke. Nor insulted them when they asked me if I recognized it was a joke. But whatever...
