Cap Space

With the news that Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James have opted out of their deals, there will be a number of teams wanting to free up massive amounts of cap space to lure them as a pair. Rumored likely suitors include Bulls, Clippers, Rockets, Cavs, and Lakers. All of these teams will need to clear cap space to make this a possibility. The Jazz have lots of cap space, and are not realistic players for a marquee free agent, and have shown a willingness to use that cap space to acquire assets. With that said, what are some potential assets the Jazz could take back in exchange for taking on some expiring contracts?

Here are the available assets that could help clear space for each of these teams:

Bulls: #16, #19, future picks, Carlos Boozer, Mike Dunleavy
Clippers: #28, future picks, DeAndre Jordan (unlikely - not a bad contract), Jared Dudley - I don't see how this happens with them keeping Paul, Griffin, and Jordan.
Rockets: #25, future picks, Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin,
Cavaliers: The Cavs don't really have any bad expiring contracts, and have cap space already, but they would have to cut loose Anderson Varejao and let Luol Deng walk. This would likely be enough.
Lakers: #7, Steve Nash - the Lakers have a lot of cap room already, but would likely need to get rid of Nash to make this happen.

So taking into account all of these assets and teams wanting to clear space, what could the Jazz do? Could they pry Steve Nash and #7 from the Lakers? Unlikely, as the Lakers will likely want to hang onto #7. What about a future first round pick plus Nash? Could the Jazz get #28 from the Clips? What about #25 from the Rockets?

Normally kicking your cap space down the road a year isn't really worth all that much (a future first or a decent 2nd rounder), but some teams may be willing to give up more if they think they have a shot at LeBron and Carmelo.

What do you think?
