oh quit the whining already. our guys now know what the playoffs feel like and now next year we'll be one of those teams with the leverage of having multiple picks.
 
Or our guys go into the next playoff series and have flashbacks of the butt kicking san antonio dished out on us and they get nervous and lose thier confidence.

Oh and i was not whining.... just saying that maybe if we had our own pick then we could package it with jefferson, or next years GS pick and get up into the top 10. Then we wouldn't be talking about trading burks, kanter, or hayward.
 
not sure that a #14 pick would have done us that much good anyway in terms of trade value.

houston just got used the #14 pick and dalembert to move up to #12 and take back two team option guys and jon leuer. doesn't really sound like the sexiest trade chip, does it?

FYI, fishonjazz, this guy gets really pissy when we don't soak up his jazzbros "expertise". Moving on...
 
i'm not saying a #14 doesn't have value. it clearly has some. just saying that making the playoffs and getting beat up by one of the best teams ALSO has value, and that #14 very rarely produces star-level talent or a whopping trade asset.

If Hayward uses his pathetic showing as motivation to get more consistent, then getting whooped by SA was better than the #14 pick.

If Favors uses watching Jefferson curl in to the fetal position as motivation to kill him in camp this fall, then getting whooped by SA was better than the #14 pick.

If watching Millsap and Jefferson get destroyed by their front line gives the FO motivation to find more time for Favors and Kanter, then getting whooped by SA was better than the #14 pick.

If Burks realizing that his lack of an outside shot and other deficiencies allowed a crappy Howard/Carroll to play over him and he works on those things, then getting whooped by SA was better than the #14 pick.

All very good points, and im not disagreeing but..... those are all things that we might have (hypotheticals) vs a pick that we would be guaranteed to have.

Of course we would lose next years pick if we would have received this years pick. So i am not trying to pick a fight about playoffs vs picks again.... just saying it would be cool if we had our own pick in this draft.

That nba nerd sure is a fiesty gal.

agree with all those points, but i still think there's an advantage to making the playoffs just in terms of growth, too.

if you watched the playoffs, you heard multiple announcers, players and coaches talk about how nobody just shows up and wins it all. it's a process. you figure out how to make it there, then you figure out how to win, then you figure out how to win on the road, then you climb the mountain until you make it to the finals, and THEN you can start thinking about championships. even the greats had to follow that path.

the jazz have started that process now. if we had missed the playoffs this year, chances are good that next year would have been the year we got our asses kicked.
