CJ hopes Utah picks up the team option next year and wants an extension

He just turned 24 actually.

I disagree about the assessment with his bench play. AK played as well or better off the bench as he did as a starter last year. CJ's differences are shocking from bench to starter play. Also we have a pretty small sample size of him starting, so we really do not know what he could do (better or worse). Either way I think we need far more consistency from our starting 2 guard than either Miles or Bell have brought. I do not think CJ has the smarts or the mental toughness that is necessary for any kind of consistency.

I vote trade.

Consistency. AJ with another monster game and CJ going 2 for 12, as a starter. That is a good contrast in consistency.

Agree with Loggrad. CJ thinks that he is starter-material but he will eventually be the inconsistent-shooting sporadic defense-playing wing no matter whether he starts or plays off the bench. (Last game he went 1-8). And that is a disaster because starting 2 is one of the critical positions for a team trying to contend.
I hope the Jazz sign him for cheap, if at all they do sign him, and dont slot him as the starting SG. But if they dont get any better wings in trades/FA signings CJ WILL return as the starter in all likelihood. Which would be quite underwhelming.

CJ is right he's been given the opportunities to grow, just how much he's grown is the question. I'd prefer to let him walk, I guess I value consistency more out of players than guys who play like superstars every once in a while but than play like a scrub the next. I don't believe he has the basketball IQ or work ethic I would like out of a young guy. Use the extra 4 million on someone who does.

I think his value is a little bit over what we could be paying him. I honestly feel CJ is going to work really hard this offseason and be a consistent player next year. You could trade him or play him, but I think signing him gives the jazz value either way.

Too small sample size this year, last year as a starter his #'s weren't very good.

Not saying his contract his bad, it's just i don't think the guy will ever become anything than a poor man's jr smith

next year he'll shoot 42% from the field and 34% from 3, not get to the free throw line, play below average defense.

he's better than raja but so is just about every other SG in the league

As much as his inconsistency is irritating, I wouldn't mind seeing him sign on the cheap again. But only in that circumstance.

We all bitched and moaned that CJ chucked from 3 like a blindfolded fat kid attacking a pinata. He's now attacking the basket multiple times more under Corbin than he was under Sloan. What has the outcome been? Not **** in the wins column. No matter how much heart, growth, or work ethic put in, the bottom line is some players just don't win.

His message tells me he's doing everything he can to beg his way into a contract. Tell his agent it's $2.2 million or have fun in Toronto.

Obviously all depends on the lockout and new structure of the contracts but I promise you CJ will be making more than 2.2M.

He could probably end up with a Travis Outlaw type deal. 5y 35M

When you can no longer have sex with 16 year olds... so 26. In 3 years. If you can legally get with high schoolers then you are still young in Utah.

So 26 or if he is a teacher into his 40's.

Oh wait, you said legally. My bad.

He must be outta his Goddamn mind.

Maybe when he reaches his prime? He's 23 I believe. That's young even in the sports world.

Just curious, how old will CJ be before he is no longer "young"?

Well, if you like CJ, he'll be 33 and "still young". Homerism doesn't understand how NBA experience works. Nothing changes the fact that if needed time to develop, HE SHOULD HAVE GONE TO COLLEGE. He's been here long enough to show what he's going to do. This just isn't enough for me long term. We, as a fan base, deserve better.

As has been said, pick up the option, its the easiest decision the front office will have this off-season.

I'm actually Pro this. We should pick up his option. If nothing else, he'll fill a role we need for another season.

I'm sorry, I don't even think I'd want him for cheap. You can talk value and money all you want, but the bottom line is that he's missing like 10 shots a game when he's off (which is often), and if we don't get the offensive rebound, poof, those possessions are gone. We don't have the talent to make up for that kind of inefficiency on a consistent basis. Let him walk and take a chance on someone else.

I don't think anyone here necessarily wants him, but it would be foolish not to pick up his option.

I'm not seeing any great free agent SGs in 2011, so assuming that he will be the starting shooting guard next season, I think he will have a most improved player-type year. I could see him averaging 18pp. I have no doubt that Utah will pick up him option. Whether they sign an extension prior to the CBA/Lockout, I am not sure and given how conservative Utah has been with re-signing players in the past, I don't think they will. I think they will see what happens with the CBA and then try to sign him, which might be too late. I could see him getting a 4yr/$24m deal, but I think he will seek something close to Wesley Matthews 5yr/$34m contract.

We could make Miles head coach and sign him long term. Then start Corbin at SG. Still loose of course, but at least it would be entertaining.

i think miles is not that bad, just inconsistent, and recently he got some consistent scoring run,he seems like he bulked up a bit, he may stay with the current deal, around 3-4 and help from the bench
