Cody Williams Hype and Appreciation Thread

Cody Williams, the Theoretically Good Defender.

After one of his highlight dunks, he gave up two wide open threes within the span of two minutes.

I'm enjoying his weird offensive explosions as much as the next idiot, but make no mistake, he's still a terrible defender.
Why are you in the hype and appreciation thread with this ******** ?

Page 28 had several people lamenting that the kid probably doesn't even like basketball, and you decide to attack me?

**** off.

Cody had some nice dunks. Great! He also had quite a few awful defensive plays. Not so great! Let's move on

You have genuinely improved so much as a poster on here this year and while Cody definitely has some low bball IQ moments on defense it is just crazy to say he is a horrible defender when he clearly has the most defensive potential of anyone on our roster

The sample size is small, but Cody's defensive efficiency is one of the best on the team right now. (Not saying much, but still.) He's also one of our better finishers at the rim.

It's undeniable that Cody suddenly trying to dunk everything is a good thing. However, you also have to stay involved in the game when you don't have the ball, and he's still not doing that. It comes down to his nonexistent motor, and I'm just not sure if that can be fixed. It's a personality trait.

Unfortunately I agree with you on this. He is flirting with the Snell Line almost every game and you cant count on him to produce any stat to the box score consistently. He is also a complete non-spacer who even gets ignored by his teammates when standing alone in the corner.

Dude has 6 double digit games in 71 career appearances, and he has never double digited any other stat than points. He has only 7 games in his entire career where he hit 5+ on either rebounds or assists.

People insist on keeping him for his defense while we have picked several way better defenders from scrap heap with vet minimum type deals including team options for every year... and those guys also do literally everything else better than Cody.

Yet this thread keeps on keeping on..

Crazy what a couple of cool dunks can do for a player.

I've always maintained Cody's biggest flaw was his complete lack of confidence. Now that he knows he can dunk, he's actually playing a bit harder/faster and not just pussyfooting around every possession. I actually look forward to Cody minutes now.

I think Hardy is going to slow play this new found confidence. It could quickly reverse if the Jazz give him the ball a bit too much

His 3pt shot is so completely broken that it's still painful to watch him play.

Sure, that's the next biggest flaw, but he's long and athletic and can do things when he actually plays full speed. Before the first game when he dunked, he was basically just walking through the offense. Now he's actually making some hard cuts and even getting some rebounds/deflections.
