Conley wants to resign. “Utah’s got me.”

Remember last year how bashed he was. Wait that didn't happen cuz Jazz best franchise in all of sports. Jazz might deserve him but the jazz fans don't after all the mean stuff that was said about this man during last season

It isn't just finding a starting center. The entire Jazz system is built around a dominant rim protector. There are only a few in the league and they are hoping Dok will become that person.
Our system is also built around lots of guys that can shoot pass and dribble. We need more of them than we need rim protectors.

Also systems are built on star talent. We may not find another Rudy or anything close. If we had Capela instead of Rudy how much worse are we? Enough that we might consider another type of system? Rudy is a generational defender... will GS be hunting for the next Steph to replace the current one?

The system works because Rudy is a superstar defender. There is more than one way to skin a cat and you need different styles in certain playoff matchups. Say we had taken Xavier Tillman instead of Udoka... he can pass and is switch while proving some rim defense... not what Rudy brings obvi but Favs is a steep drop off from Rudy too. But it gives you a different look you might be able to take advantage of... he’s also shown some potential to shoot. He’s also a rookie and a fully functional backup right now... BUt CenTerS TakES So Longs tOo Develops?!?!?

If he re-signs, I hope it is one year at a time. Include a no-trade clause if we have to. He has been a revelation this year, and I think his contract year status is at least partly the reason why. And if he's so happy here, he should be happy getting paid one year at a time.

Lakers did the same with Caldwell-Pope a few times. Slightly overpaid him on a one year deal that included a no-trade clause.

Huh... a few years down the road we are deep at the wing huh? I mean we will have DM and Royce... likely JC but will need to replace 3 key rotation players.

Y’all are acting like centers are impossible to find. They are the easiest thing to find on the market right now. I’m sorry that Tony wasn’t good and that Ed was washed and also way too ****ing small to play as a drop big but solid backup 5s are pretty easy to find. Jeff Withey was a solid backup as was Udoh.

Position matters in drafting but especially at center because you can’t play two of them together if they can’t shoot. Whereas you can play two shooting guards two point guards multiple wings etc. it’s not that hard. If Udoka was a few tiers ahead of other guys and there weren’t good wing or guard prospects to choose from then by all means play the card you were dealt. But to invest a first and three years to develop a backup center is some stupid *** ****. GUYS... we have seen this ****ing movie before. We took TB instead of White and Hart... it was some stupid **** then, and while Udoka is a better prospect than TB, it is still some stupid **** now.

You sound like every other teams fan in the NBA when they face us. Good centers like Gobert are easy to find! Ours will be like him soon, lol.

No drafted wing would break the rotation this year or likely next year. So it's all the same. After that? It's a crap shoot at every position. Good players will rise up in practice and even little playing time.

It's poor logic to say we missed in the draft on a center so we shouldn't draft a center again. Those two have no correlation.

Those two backup centers you mentioned are both bad examples for your argument. You're also forgetting that Gobert wasn't re-signed yet.

I'm glad the front office is making smart decisions to draft the player they think is the best prospect available regardless of position. Bad teams always do the opposite.

Regardless of how good dok turns out they should adjust their determination of who the best player is, not positional priority. Even though even if you go by position center is as much of a need as anywhere else.

And finding guys that can shoot and dribble is much easier than finding a rim protector. Much easier. I get that the pick has risk but I love the gamble. Dok has the length and more athleticism than Rudy and it took us multiple years with a lot of work for Rudy to develop. I hope in two years Dok replaces Favs.

I mean we GOT a guy that can shoot and dribble in that draft. It just wasn't one of the guys that these people spent two years discussing so they sore.

And he's injured right? Or just not playing? Definitely not NBA ready.

My posts are basically the opposite of this but go on....

The exceptional generation talent that is Rudy Gobert is the reason we can play this style effectively. Finding another guy like that is pretty dicey... so if we are taking Udoka thinking he will perform that way it would be a pretty bold claim.

No lie I was a devout Rudy believer before he even played an NBA game.
I went to the free summer scrimmage the jazz held right after Rudy was drafted and couldn't stop gushing about him. I wish I could find my posts about that scrimmage.

I remember Rudy was everywhere. There was no where on the court that anyone could hide. His energy, tenacity, and motor were off the charts.

I mean it was a scrimmage among teammates and he was a rookie who should be just trying to fit in and be friendly and figure out his place. Nope. He played way too hard and angry and I could tell that people were annoyed by his play. Then the whistle would blow and the game would end and he would flip a switch and be all nice.

It was pretty awesome to watch. And I had no idea who he was when we drafted him.

Hell, I was begging for him to get more minutes from day one. And he should have been starting at least a half season sooner than he did without a doubt.

I'm so happy that people outside Utah are really starting to see Rudy's value.

Funny thing is as much as I love Rudy I thought he was overpaid. I get why he is underappreciated but when you watch the jazz enough you see how Rudy is everything to the jazz. His story and rise to nba all star is quite remarkable.

Huh.... Rudy was starting by midway through year 2... could have been a backup in year one but we had Ty Corbin. Rudy was extremely athletic for his size.

There are plenty of guys that can protect the rim at the level required to be a backup. There are also lots of guys that could provide something different than a traditional rim protecting center. If we are saying Udoka is going to be Rudy's replacement someday... okay... but we also have him under contract for 5+ years... soooooo a little premature to find his replacement.
