Dallas Mavericks @ Utah Jazz GAME THREAD (Airing on TNT, January 19th, 2012 - 8:30 pm Utah time)

i didnt see the first half but our bigs sucked in the second half, yet i give credit to their good defense. Kanter got lost in the crowd, millsap got swatted a lot of time, and Jefferson sucked as usual

Al was aggressive early, attacking the basket and keeping the Jazz close. Both he and Millsap (40 minutes tonight) were winded down the stretch, and it showed. Really could have used Josh Howard tonight to defend Marion. Oh well.

Actually, this would have been the perfect game to break out the Millsap at 3 experiment. Neither Hayward or Miles could guard him. I'm actually kind of surprised Ty didn't do this.

today we lost because we were supposed to lose, they are much more experienced team than us, they just managed to win with making some aggressive defense under the rim and playing ball smart. We were in the game till the last min thanks to our hustle plays, and steals finishing with fastbreak points. But we still dont know how to play the end of the game. Everyone is putting effort on the court, but our defense is too risky for getting 3 pointers in. We have many things to figure out on the court, but still it is good that the team gives the fans excitement even though going through a rebuilding period.

Dallas is not gonna be champions this year but they are still contenders and they play very well, it is good that we play head to head against a team like that. Despite of the loss, it was still a good game to watch, thanks to especially Hayward who showed us there is not much he cant do in the court, who cares if he couldnt make every jumper he took.

You're right but it still hurts man.

I'm seriously starting to wonder if Kanter will ever be able to finish in the pros. He looks so pathetic trying to score from 2 feet.

i think he will when he needs to learn he should be more calm and fake in the right moment and jump more quickly, he spoiled a lot of nice offensive rebounds today

I still don't get why Ty took out Hayward when he was playing hard and with confidence and on a roll then waited until the end of the 4th to put him back in when he was cold from sitting that long. Makes no sense. You don't yank the guy who sparks the defense to get you back in the game when he is cruising. Won't do a lot for his confidence issues.

Dear Devin Harris,

By now you have seen the text messages and missed calls. You might have even seen highlights on Sportscenter of the Utah Jazz Basketball game against the Dallas Mavericks. It was a hard fought game, but your team ended up losing at home after playing most of the game with only 4 offensive players. That's tough considering how good Dallas is. You know, the Dallas Mavericks with Dirk and Cuban who won the title last year? That team that you once played for and was dumped in favor of a 100 year old fossil who once played against John Stockton and Karl Malone? At the time, many people thought the move was desperate and crazy by your former owner Mark Cuban. In fact, many thought that he would have been better running a Dairy Queen icecream store instead of playing GM and trading you.

Hopefully, you'll remember that TNT tipoffs are typically later and will show up next time. I would hope that you would play with a little more fire and actually hit a shot or get an assist for one of your teammates to show how big of a mistake it was for Cuban to trade you.

With all the speed you have, I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't go off for 20+ against guys like Derek Fisher and Jason Kidd.

So here's to next time. Please remember the game time, and show up early for warmups. I can text you if you want.

Signed,

Swat Lake City

I don't know if he's a bad fit, but he just can't get it going. He took horrible shots in the 1st, and I still can't figure out why Ty brought him back late.

What this team needs from the point are things Harris does not brign to the table. Pass first, outside shooting, D...

Good player, terrible fit.

He just has to learn to not take the ball down low, EVER. He has to start doing some kind of drills to get that programmed out of his head. It can be a hard thing for big men to do because for some it's a natural reaction when they get a rebound. If he keeps the ball chest level or above, and jumps right away (doesn't even matter how small a jump it is, its going to force contact) he will either be able to finish or get fouled at a much higher rate. Also, USE THE BACKBOARD ITS THERE FOR A REASON!

Bottom line is that the Mavs have big 3 men (Odom and Marion) who posted up Hayward and Miles and the Utah 3's got pushed around by the Mav's 3's. If Odom or Marion didn't score, they caused a double team which allowed Mavs to shoot a wide open jumper.
Hayward and Miles need lessons from Kanter on post D

Kanter has to learn how to finish around the rim. it's so frustrating to watch, especially after he works so hard for offensive boards or good position.

That is something that is easily coached up, so if he can't figure out going right back up to the rim, he won't be anything more than a space clogger/rebounder as he slowly loses offensive confidence for the rest of his career

His problem is that he gets the rebound and gathers himself down low. The D is to fast for that in the NBA. If he starts going right back up it will look a lot better.

Just cause I want to make sure, Bell's 7 points, 2 boards, and nothing else for 26 minutes was worth it for his defense, right?
