Dante Appreciation Thread

We were screaming no!!!!! before the draft pointing to exact the same thing. Even playing vs kids his own age he was awkward, unbalanced and landing on his *** any time there was a slightest contact driving to the basket. Guy had "FRAGILE" written all over him in any pre draft video. Still shaking my head how Jazz ignored all the red flags about him ( and I am not even talking ball handling or shooting). That length and quick first step all it took to buy into hype.

I didn’t see that in the few videos they showed. He seemed aggressive and attacked the rim a lot. There were game stats with him going to the line like 10-15x a game which seemed promising since that’s sort of a requisite for most superstars. Attack the rim. Get the calls.

yes he attacked the rim, but uncoordination and lack of strength, balance was obvious. First 4 layups in the video - three of them he ends up awkwardly falling to the floor.

Feel bad for him... ****** deal... the timing was just never right for us and Dante and injury after injury just hit at the exact worse time. Seems like a great kid and teammate.

Lack of strength? He was 18 years old.

This thread isn't about whether the Jazz made a mistake in drafting him. It's about the efforts he has made to overcome his constant injuries. Who knows, maybe he will come back. But if I were the Jazz, I'd let him go so that he could have a fresh start. Maybe he needs to go to overseas and build up his body. He still is only 23. Jingles didn't get into the NBA until he was 27.

can't blame the player for getting injured on court. it is DL's decision to extend him to a 3yr 33mil fully guaranteed, which essentially prevents us from getting any high quality players in this upcoming free agency without giving up BOTH Ricky and Favs, that we have problem with.

He's not going anywhere for a few years. His contract is guaranteed the next two years. Honestly, while a fresh start might be better for him, I don't see him giving up that dough nor do I blame him.

I don't bag on draft picks that bust due to injuries because no one has that foresight to see that happening to a player that was previously healthy prior to be selected. Dante has busted his arse to get back from his injuries and, with as many as he's had, it couldn't have been easy.

But he's still a heartbeat away from being breathed on and missing six weeks. With all the time he misses due to rehab, it's hard to find time to work on your game due to missed practices and such. His contract isn't horrible at all honestly, but it's still a bit of a albatross.

Best wishes, Dante. Hope you heal well and can find a way to play ball again at a proficient level. Everyone here and throughout Jazz fandom would love nothing more than for you to prove the majority wrong about your ability to get healthy, stay healthy and play to a level that helps this team take the next step.
