SALT LAKE CITY — Another pro sports organization from the state of Utah, the Utah Warriors, showed its support for fellow athletes as games have been postponed in several pro sports this week in response to continuing concerns over racial inequality and police brutality.

“The Utah Warriors Rugby team stand alongside our fellow professional athletes, as they boycott their games in protest of the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. We are honored to play in the same state with the players and coaches of the Utah Jazz and Real Salt Lake, and we support them in their stand against systemic racism and police brutality,” the team said in a statement released Friday.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Blake family as well as the entire Kenosha community during this time.”

The Utah Jazz’s Game 6 matchup against the Denver Nuggets, scheduled for Thursday, was among the NBA games postponed over the past two days, after the Milwaukee Bucks chose not to play Game 5 of their first-round series against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday.

Real Salt Lake’s Wednesday night game against LAFC was also one of five Major League Soccer games postponed that night, as players from numerous leagues — including the WNBA, NBA, NFL and Major League Baseball — have shown support in the wake of the Blake shooting.

The Warriors, who are a part of Major League Rugby, had their 2020 season canceled after five games due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
