I think I might be down for a Zach Lavine trade again under the same premise. If he's healthy and good then you found something cheap. If he gets hurt its a stealth tank move. I'm not going beyond Collins/Clarkson and maybe 29 or 32nd pick this year though.

Yeah I was thinking about this and I'm not sure what the best direction is. I actually think Sexton, Lavine, and Lauri would produce a high level offense and we can be some version of the Pacers where we just accept that we stink on defense. Or maybe Kessler returns to form/TH makes a big jump and we don't. Who knows. But I have a hard time seeing that happen because we have Lisan Al-Ghaib, and that seems to be priority A, B, and C for the franchise. It's possible we force Collin back to the bench (man I feel bad for him) in that scenario. If we acquired Lavine and traded Sexton I don't think we're a better team. If we have both we might actually be decent...if we have neither we're looking at a potential top 4-5 lottery position and I think that might actually be my preferred route.

Generally, I think I would prefer to continue clearing the deck (even if it means trading Sexton) over acquiring a 2nd/3rd tier star like Lavine or Beal. But if we do, I think we ought to keep Sexton rather than having this revolving door.

How much does it take to get KD right now?

Not thinking for the Jazz, just wondering what Phoenix's return could look like.

I think KD will eventually force his way out, might even be this summer. I think Lillard is a reasonable reference point. MIL trade one 1st, two picks swaps, Grayson Allen, and Holiday for him. Holiday eventually moved for Brogdon, Rob Williams, and two firsts. So we're looking at 3 firsts, two pick swaps, and 3 decent vet role players that might be able to return a first in the right circumstances. I think teams who have most of their picks intact and/or decent players could be players in a potential KD deal. Not sure what type of deal PHX would be looking for though.

You never know with KD, but here are some teams I came up with on a first pass:

BOS - He always wanted to be there, they could move Brown
NYK - They have the means, would PHX be interested in Randle at all?
OKC - Have plenty of trade power, potential return?
MIA - I think they have enough, will need to put Herro/Jacquez/Jovic on the table
HOU - Lot's of trade pieces, seems like they want to make a big move
MEM - They have all their firsts
SAS - KD likes Pop, everyone wants to play with Wemby

Yes. I would offer 3 firsts, Collins, and their choice of anyone else not named Laui or Keyonte up to the amount needed to make the trade work.

I decided to entertain your scenario - even as I have doubts that the Suns would accept this trade. So, the Jazz trade their 8th in 2024, 29th in 2024 and Minnesota's 2026 for Booker. They also trade Collins, Hendrix, Kessler, Sensabaugh and Lofton to match the salaries.

Now, the Jazz will go in the 2024/25 season with

C - ? / Yurtseven
PF - ? / ?
SF - Lauri / ?
SG - Booker / Clarkson
PG - Keyonte / Sexton


... and about 38 million in the 2024 cap space. How far do you think this team would go? And what free agents can it sign to fill out the roster?

I think you are misreading my posts. Have I ever tried to tell people to stop discussing potential trades? I am also discussing them, by pointing out that many suggest unrealistic trade scenarios and that trading for a star would be, in my opinion, premature at this stage. I don't understand why my opinion is so triggering for you. Is it not a discussion board where people talk about all things related to the Jazz and share their personal takes? Because it is what I do.

Repeating the same thing everywhere is not discussing lol. There is nothing wrong with your opinion.. the problem is in your need to repeat it everywhere.

I don't think that I am repeating the same thing. Every time I try to give some arguments: examples of other teams that could give more players/pick to outbid the Jazz in trading for stars, specific examples of young teams that traded for a star and became a contender etc. I don't remember anyone trying to refute these arguments. Instead, some posters appear to be annoyed that I am a party pooper with (in my opinion, at least) being realistic.

I think someone already mentioned, but Booker is probably the last guy out the door in Phoenix. They are much more likely to try and retool around him, if they have to break up this band of misfits.

I mean its not like they can tank within next 6 years or so.

Their owner is paying a ton of money and they got Beal who might be the most untradable player. He might get tired of paying for trash and force a blow up. Anything possible

To all folks that fantasize about this or that big trade during the upcoming off-season: the Jazz simply currently DO NOT have enough assets to engage in such trades. All that Utah has right now is Lauri, several unproven rookies and the slumping Kessler. Once a big trade is completed we will have Lauri + new star +... nothing? The Jazz will be without any close-in-time draft picks and the only help they can get will be through their cap space. Now, how many good role players were willing to come and join the Mitchell-Gobert Jazz, the Deron-Boozer Jazz, the Stockton-Malone Jazz? Why would it be different this time?

If you look at recent more-or-less successful star trades, the teams first established a core that they could add a star via trade and immediately compete. The Timberwolves added Gobert to Ant-Towns-McDaniels-Russell-Reid, the Cavs added Mitchell to Garland-Allen-Mobley, the Raptors added Kawhi to Lowry-Valanciunas-Siakim-VanVleet. Utah needs to establish a similar core before going for a second star to pair with Lauri and nobody else.

We decided against that formula when trading Donny and Rudy during the same off season. We were in a great position to do the same thing and punted.

You do realize that Booker and Davis have more than 80 million in contracts that should be matched in trades? If the Jazz trade their entire team except for Sexton, Lauri and Hendricks they still will be way, way short.
