Did the Jazz Mess up?

After reading this article I think the small market team owners are going to demand a franchise type tag for players to eliminate the players controlling where they are traded to.

If this is the truth then the Jazz should have kept Deron and put a franchise tag on him prior to him leaving.

If that plays out, management will be flogged, and the jazz will be the laughing stock of the nba.

There is no guarantee that the owners will get a "franchise tag" in the next CBA. I think the Jazz felt like they had no choice because there will be a lockout, and Deron could walk and they would end up with no assets. With the trade deadline today, I think they felt that this was their last chance to guarantee the franchise of getting assets for Deron. They said at the Presser that they didn't want to end up like Cleveland, Phoenix, and Toronto. Those teams got nothing in exchange for their star leaving.

Well it is still yet to be determined if the Jazz become like Cleveland, or Toronto. Phoenix isn't that bad so I don't know why they are being mentioned. Jazz could turn into the Clippers just as easily. Draft picks are unknown and so are rookies with potential. Does Harris stay? This trade like most trades will take a few years to determine the value of it. I agree with your point that at least the Jazz have some hope where as Cleveland and Toronto don't.

Either way.. Franchise tag or not. The Jazz are and will be respected for not allowing these guys to play them like a fiddle in their personal pursuit of fame and fortune.

I predict that there will be more, not less of the kind of thing the Jazz have done here. By doing this, the Jazz seized back a little bit of the power that had been shifting from ownership to a handful of players.

Way to go Jazz!!!

What the Jazz did shocked the NBA more than Jerry quiting. It had to get the attention of every owner, and may well be the rallying point for the owners to get thier Franchise Player into the new CBA.

But if the players aren't stopped, they're going to make a joke of their league. Anyone want that?

No point if the franchise player tagged is not motivated to win with the team anymore.

This kind of drivel is ****ing retarded. There is no reason other than pure speculation that Deron ever wanted to leave. We lose a few games and everyone blames Deron. Of course his body language is going to be bad after losses. You people are idiots.

This represents risk. If the Jazz have proven one thing, it is that they don't take risks.

Here's a question I haven't seen asked or answered: In two years, is Deron worth a maximum deal? With his annual lingering wrist/ankle/calf injuries, I don't see it. So why hold out for a possible franchise tag when you probably won't be using it anyway?

After starting 15-5, we have been a .400 ball club. I wouldn't call that losing a few games.
