DL - Swing for the Fences - Embiid?

Well, there is now no greater boom or bust selection than Embiid.

If DL stays where we are at, I am thinking more and more that I would like Embiid to fall to #5 and we grab him there. I think we have enough draft pick resources to trade into another higher 1st round pick get other good players to make the team fun to watch. Maybe we can someone luck into trading picks and getting Sacramento's pick or Phoenix. Maybe Aaron Gordon falls a bit and we can still land him and the promise of Embiid.

I don't even know if we will know what is going on until the end of hte 1st round. Just because teams take players, it doesn't mean they are going to stay on those teams.

Embiid may come back and fulfill his promise or he may not. But we aren't going to get another shot at someone with this kind of potential again.

High risk/high reward.

I cannot !@$#!@#$ wait until draft night.

Chad Ford alluded to some bloodwork issues on the interview he did with Simmons on Grantland. Possible issues with hepatitis or anemia? He didn't come out and say anything definite, just inferred there were more problems than everyone was aware of.

With the foot, back, knee and now bloodwork issues, I can't see the Jazz taking the risk.

Wow, I hadn't heard about the blood work issue.

If DL was teetering about possibly taking Embiid before, that might just close the door.

Thanks

Genetic testing confirms he's Obama's half-brother.

I can't see anyone taking the risk except as the second of their first-round picks. Maybe Philly at #10?

If the Lakers keep #7 and Embiid is available, I am convinced they would take him. They actually have the ability to build via free agency and trades while they gamble on a high draft pick. For the Jazz at #5, it wouldn't be worth the risk if Wiggins, Parker, Exum, or Vonleh were available and the might even have some of Gordon, Smart, or Randle ahead of him too.

Swing for the fences and land the #1 pick. If we stay at 5 I say go with Gordon I guess. I am wafflign back and forth on Embiid on #5. Just very hesitant to pull the trigger on our grand tanking year and ending up with Greg Oden 2.0

^^
Agree with the Lakers. I actually made a bet in the rep thread based on my feeling LA would be a very plausible landing spot for Embiid.

If it is anemia, high altitudes can be a trigger factor in severe symptoms and reactions. Ryan Clark of the Pittsburgh Steelers had a severe reaction to the altitude due to his sickle-cell anemia from playing a game in Denver. This is why those medical reports should be sent to the NBA and then distribute each of the teams the same information. Personally, there's no way I draft a kid with any major health issues if I haven't seen his medicals.

Pretty sure the blood work would be done to test for bone cancer. I talked about it previously in another Embiid thread. Not sure if that's what they're doing, but that would be my guess.

So if Embiid falls, would that sweeten the pot for Cleveland? Could we remove Favors from the deal and send over Embiid, Burks and picks for whoever they draft at 1?

I'm a bit of a fan of the power of threes. If there's yet another underlying health issue, I think I'd have to pass.

If that's bull **** and it's simply what we already know, I draft him at #5. Easily.

Is this the fence we are swinging at with Embiid?

I think they would want Embiid and Favors for insurance if Embiid shatters. Chad ford mentioned this possibility to Bill Simmons I think.

If Embiid is there at #5, I'd offer them Kanter, #35, next year's 2nd, and a future protected 1st and take back a bad contract or two. They'd still get there man in Embiid and Kanter is still a better big than anyone they'd get from Philly. Add in those three picks and us taking back a bad contract or two and it could be enough. I highly doubt it but who knows. Maybe they could parlay that future 1st from us (and the other picks and Kanter who played with Cousins as well?) into getting the Kings #8 (which is available) somehow with some more moving parts (bad Kings contracts) involved and there they could get Vonleh, Randle or Gordon quite possibly. Cleveland's GM doesn't exactly follow a standard path so anything is possible. And they may jump at the idea of an Embiid/Vonleh haul. So might Lebron.

It would be complicated but some sort of three-way here may make some sense for all involved.

Cleveland gets pick #5 and pick #8, Utah's 2015 2nd rounder
Sac gets Kanter + future protected 1st from Utah + rid of a bunch of salary
Utah gets pick #1 plus bad contracts from Cleveland (Jack) and Kings (two of Landry, Thompson, Terry)

Cleveland gets Embiid and Vonleh/Randle or Gordon plus our 2nd rounder from next year
Sac gets Kanter, that protected 1st from us (year tbd) and gets to dump a bunch of salary
We get the #1 pick and have to take on a few bad contracts (but in the process get some vet leadership we could use)

The best player in the draft, a Sure Thing if he's healthy, falling to us at 5 just feels like fate. We're not making the playoffs next year, anyway. So how much better off are we taking one of the Sure Maybes like Vonleh, Gordon, or Smart?
