This about future of Lauri and his family as much as anything. Its a questionmark hanging over the fact where he lives and grows his kids at which could change in an instant.

You really think that uncertainty dragging has no affect on him and the only variables are our price and their price?
Maybe. But thats what the money is for and thats the life of an nba player.

As a Warriors fan, would you want Dunleavy to pay what DA is trying to squeeze out of him?

As a Jazz fan I hope they do, but wont fault them if they dont.
If its podz and picks... they should pay that. Lauri is basically perfect for them. Outside of like Giannis/KD I think he is the one guy they could get that turns them into a legit contender if things break right for them.

Not really. I think Lauri ultimately would want to get his extension and that can only happen here. If we dragged our feet on an extension that is when I see him getting angry or frustrated. I wouldn't say we are dragging this thing out. It has an end date approaching. I think they have given their price... we have given our price. Now we see who blinks. I doubt they are having like active daily discussions on it. Its also out in the public for the most part now.. so if a "secret" team wants to make a bid they know the rough asking price.

I think with this one we have a real chance both sides dig in and say no. So I give it a 12% chance of happening. Something could change that of course on either side. The most likely way I see it happening is if GS caves. IDK that DA has a preferred path.
Tone watch 12%?

Meh, if Lauri isn't excited about going to the Warriors the trade won't happen either. Lauri would need to give the Warriors a indication that he will not leave after a year. Ultimately he would get to decide if he wants to compete for a ring next year or just get paid as much as he can and stay in Utah.
And I honestly dont think they compete for a ring next year even if they get lauri. Just my opinion.

Not exactly true. Only by staying in Utah does he get a >$20 million raise on his current salary and a max extension inked before the upcoming season.

In a scenario where he has a bad/injured year that could jeopardize his future earnings, the R&E could be securing (ball park) $100 million that he MIGHT not otherwise.

I understand that. The stability comment was related to rumors that he would delay signing the R&E so that he couldn't be traded at the deadline.

And I don't mean to totally dismiss this... and I might go to the Warriors and tell them to bring their best offer next week or we just pivot and start working on finalizing the details of the extension.

...should be enough to put the Jazz on an upward trajectory in a couple years. Obviously, it would be great to get one of Flagg, Dybantsa, Boozer, etc., but no matter what the Jazz do the odds of that happening are pretty slim.

If I'm happy at my job but I'm willing to listen if somebody offers me a massive raise to leave, that doesn't mean my Plan A is to see if I can get a massive raise to leave.
It does if you pursue those offers tho. Doesn't mean you're not happy if you stay at that job but it does mean that plan A is to see if there is a better option for yourself/your family (or your NBA franchise). If plan A was to keep that job, you wouldn't pursue offers. Especially if doing so could potentially put it in jeopardy.

And even if you don't believe that the FO is pursuing those offers, they certainly aren't discouraging them. Which only brings risk if plan A is to retain Laurie.

Plan A) See if someone will overpay for Lauri & fully tank

Plan B) Tank with Lauri if we don't receive the offer we're looking for

We're good with both options but have a clear preference imo.

I might just be arguing semantics. Idk. I'm hello

I think you're confusing "pursuing" with "being open to listening to"

And I think we are listening with real intent, but I'd guess we are operating as though we are keeping and extending Lauri until the offer moves over the line.

I understand the difference. I believe we are pursuing offers. Similar to how we did with Mitchell & NYK. We're just attempting to appear as if we aren't in order to maintain leverage.
Well... we kinda know now that behind the scenes Donny had told them he didn't want to be here. Lauri is very much the opposite... and I believe it at least until he signs his contract.

The messaging with Mitchell was that we were actively shopping him but would be okay keeping him into the season if we didn't get the offer we wanted.

That is very different from the messaging with Lauri.

I dont think we get edgecomb if we keep lauri. I think you need to pencil in 9 - 10th pick

Not, if all of Sexton, Kessler and Collins, and Clarkson on board. Too much upside for Hardy to run overweak eastern teams+ Jazz home games. I see 32-33 wins season ahead, including trade deadline panic sale to lose in the end. Danny either has to sell Lauri or Kessler+ one veteran not Lauri.

So you’re saying when we are trying to lose, we don’t play him?
Nope, Im saying the data needs more context. For instance, lets say lauri misses a game when we are playing guys like luka samanic, and yurtseven, and juzang heavy minutes normally. Well, we probably lose that game with or without him.
But if he misses a game when we are playing conley, KO, and simone as a big part of the rotation and we lose then that would be mean more imo.
Also the quality of the opposition would add further context

FWIW there is a decent chance that Dybantsa will play college basketball in PROvo utah. Ainge and Ryan would get lots of good chances to really get to know him if thats the case.

I just don't think a deal gets done here. Being the only team able to extend Lauri just changes the value prop so much imo. I would just tell the Warriors its final call next week and then hammer out the details of the extension so its completely ready for August 6th.
