The way you juice more value for and incentive from the Lakers is you do a three team where D-Lo goes to Cleveland and Okoro comes back here in a S&T, then Cleveland trades D-Lo to us for Clarkson a separate transaction shortly thereafter, thereby making him eligible to re-sign with the Lakers.

Lakers want out of the Dlo business though.

Fun fact: Podz and Keshawn Justice were teammates at Santa Clara. Podz was the leading scorer and Justice second.

And that number also factors in the chance we may move Lauri I'm sure. Even if it is only like a 10-20% chance. It depends on which vet is moved but if Sexton or Kessler were moved I think bottom 5 is a lock... if its Clarkson... maybe not.

I just can't think of many examples of teams with like 5 rookies/2nd year players in the rotation that won 25+ games. Unless one of the rookies/2nd year guys are transcendent Wemby types.

But you're right that's a lot of young guys. But I can't think of a team in recent memory set up like us to even compare. With so many young guys and then a player of Lauri's caliber and a few decent vets or better in Sexton.

I don't think a young guy needs to be transcendent to make us win more than 25 with Lauri and the other vets. If 2 guys are positive players even role players, that makes a huge difference. Like if Hendricks can come in and play solid defense and hit his open shots that helps win games. But probably a lot depends on Sexton and/or Keyonte.

But I also know you and I view Lauri different.

And no one wants to acquire the business. Think he's basically untradeable because he helps the Lakers win regular season games and they aren't going to pay to get off him

I doubt we view Lauri that differently. It might be our view of Keyonte that may be the most different. Not that I don't like him but his on/off numbers were putrid... not surprising for a rookie lead guard. Even if he takes a leap he will still be very much a guy that helps you lose more than he helps you win. He'd have to take a few steps to really push winning.

I just think young players are detrimental to winning... even when solid. I think Key/Taylor are firmly in the rotation. I'd guess Cody gets some spot minutes and Flip too. Once you move Kessler or Clarkson I think Collier/Flip/Brice are regular rotation pieces. Its almost not a choice by Hardy at that point. He may play Bazley or Juzang more but those guys are kind of developing as well.

The west is just so tough... remove 1 of Sexton and Kessler and we are almost surely bottom 5... remove 1 of the JCs and I think chances are pretty good you are bottom 5.

Also one of the best rebounding guards in the NBA and one of the highest IQ rookie contract players in the NBA. He's more like a very high end 4th guy.

They want to upgrade but they basically can't without giving up significant assets and he does help them win, so any upgrade would only have a marginal impact on their regular season win total.

Depth is a bigger issue for them as they are paying MLE sized contracts to two guys (Vanderbilt/Vincent) who would probably struggle to get much more than 4 million per year in the current market.

I guess a better way to put it... I don't think they would be itching for a reunion in the situation I presented.

I think if they could swap JC for Vincent and DLo they would welcome the huge money savings and might not feel like its a step back.

So that's what my convoluted two-step (D-Lo to Cavs and Okoro to Jazz S&T -> then Clarkson to Cleveland for D-Lo -> waive D-Lo -> D-Lo re-signs with Lakers [because teams can re-sign a player they traded away if they get traded twice]) is trying to drive at. If the Jazz can facilitate both a cap dumping ground and allow the Lakers to retain D-Lo I wonder what the Jazz could get for that (+ Sexton?).

Also, after much thought I’d take a chance on Kuminga over Podz. We have so many guards as it is. Also, what if we end up in a spot to take Edgecombe or Traore next year but we have Keyonte, Podz, Collier, Sexton (maybe), etc already.

Trade the excess is fine but it dampers the upside of the team a little if the player is at a position we have a lot of talent at already. If that makes sense.
