Scoot was horrid last year and is an on ball guy. Its a tremendous recipe for being bad. I also think they move Grant at some point. Ayton is a loser. Deni is the key there if they end up being good.

I think if Portland ends up being good it's because Clingan plays ahead of Ayton and transforms their defense to respectable.

One thing to account for also is we have more continuity heading into this season. Current rookies are not likely to break into big rotation roles and we didnt add a player who is forced into starter minutes.

Hardy was able to pick up the pieces last year and it could be that we will match last years wins if FO doesnt intervene. Probably wont be a .500 team at 52 games this time though (third time the charm?).

We're going through our team worrying about Bazley and Eubanks ruining the tank. Have that same optimistic eye towards every team and suddenly no one can tank. Vets+depth is what wins games during the RS, that is the difference between this year and 22. 22 roster was littered with vets and depth, this roster is filled with inexperienced kids. Biggest case against the Jazz is Lauri and Sexton, both of which can be solved with divine intervention. That's all I'm saying.
I don’t think you are interpreting what was said correctly… it is 100% because of Lauri and our top talent that we can win. The reason people think we will be awful is young and developing players will be so bad. Well what happens if that badness is covered up by a guy like Bazley or just a rookie being not bad? The other tanking teams don’t have our high end guys… so doing the same exercise doesn’t hit as hard.

Very very very well said.

The average time a team misses the playoffs during a rebuild is 4-5 years, it's very rare for a team to miss the playoffs for more than 6-7 years in a row. We have already missed for 2, so missing another 2-3 years would be normal and anything more would be longer than expected.
Not saying you're wrong, but I haven't seen any numbers like this before, so wondering where you're getting them.

I think worrying about Bazley and Eubanks says enough about our depth on it's own and shows how different the conversation is compared to 22. I'm looking at the decision to play Bazley or Cody and thinking that looks tanktastic. Of course anything can happen, but I'm just being real about the roster. No depth + young players is a good recipe for tanking regardless of the hypothetical, unlikely scenario where one of your rookies or replacement level guys does well.

You look at any of these other tanking rosters, you're also going to find hypothetical scenarios that could ruin the tank. I can understand the desire to tank more, but just level setting where we are right now, I can't see how there are 7-8 teams that are clearly worse than us if we give them the same optomism/pessimism we are giving our current roster.

I think there are multiple areas where improvement can happen from last year:
- JC and Kessler had down years so not out of the question they are better next year
- Collins was learning new system and already looked better at the end of last season
- Lauri had a horrible offseason before last year, so even if he was "about the same as previous year" it doesnt mean he doesnt have another step he can take. This time he skipped national team duties and isnt doing military service.
- Key, TH and Brice are no longer rookies, and its fair to assume that either they can be better next year or some our new rookies could break through into the rotation and play better than they did last season.
- Bazley, Lofton and even Juzang who had some nice moments at the end of last year could turn into a solid rotation player

There are plausible scenarios where next year's tank fails into another "mid year tank". Our defense being crap is the best hope for the tank and for it not being terrible probably requires more than one of TH, Bazley, Juzang etc. stepping up and being our next Tech and Dunn type glow ups.
