Donald Fires FBI Director who's investigating Russian Election Hacking

Increasingly, the American president is beginning to sound like a character out of Orwell's 1984.

Quotes by the character Winston Smith in 1984:

"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command. His heart sank as he thought of the enormous power arrayed against him, the ease with which any Party intellectual would overthrow him in debate, the subtle arguments which he would not be able to understand, much less answer. And yet he was in the right! They were wrong and he was right. The obvious, the silly, and the true had got to be defended. Truisms are true, hold on to that! The solid world exists, its laws do not change. Stones are hard, water is wet, objects unsupported fall towards the earth's centre."......
--------------------------------------
"Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past," repeated Winston obediently.

"Who controls the present controls the past," said O'Brien, nodding his head with slow approval. "Is it your opinion, Winston, that the past has real existence?" (3.2.39-40)

Trump's latest pronouncements are right out of 1984:
https://thinkprogress.org/trump-vfw...-reading-is-not-whats-happening-b1a8f318d1d9/

"In George Orwell’s classic dystopian novel 1984, the “final, most essential command” of the ruling totalitarian regime is “to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears.”
On Tuesday, President Trump made that same request of his supporters.

Speaking to a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) gathering in Kansas City, Trump implored his audience to forget about what they see and read — and instead just listen to him.

“Don’t believe the crap you see from these people, the fake news,” Trump said, pointing at reporters as the crowd broke out in boos. “Just remember, what you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening"

Don't like CNN? too bad, since they are pointing out the truth here. Of course, in a Post Truth landscape, if there is no truth, there are no lies, and the media loses the ability to rebut the lies of the president...

Red:

Come to JazzFanz for Bryce Cotton, stay 3 more years to fret about Trump.

I'm a fan of just about anything to do with Utah. Other then home, it's my favorite place on Earth. It's true I don't get to go to Jazz games, though, lol. I also remember saying, back when Cotton was still hanging on with the team, that I thought there were a lot of thoughtful and intelligent people here, as a result of some threads in general discussion, and, son of a gun, if I didn't stick around for that reason. And I hope to show my wife the state of Utah in 2019, and will be asking for suggestions as to best time of year, etc. At that time maybe you can chime in and direct me to someplace sure to cost me my life, lol. Three years already? Well, I must be having a good time, anyway.

Best time to visit depends on what you're wanting to do. Spring through early fall are good if you want to do some outdoorsy stuff that's not skiiing. Summer is fine, too, typically, and isn't usually unbearably hot as it currently is. As far as directing you to some place that would cost you your life? Slayer is coming to town next month.

I want to show my wife the national parks I visited. But I know that's not easy anymore. It was the last time I drove across the state, which is a clue on how long ago that was. Anyway, I'm thinking Fall.

And BTW, your characterization was spot on. That is the way it went. Close enough. Wasn't anything I planned, just liked it here. Trump derangement syndrome, lol...

This Q stuff is hilarious. Conservatives are even dumber than liberals.

I don't have the patience to figure out what these nutjobs stand for. I also have little patience for the nutjobs on the left. Unfortunately, in America today, those of us in the middle are being held hostage by the nutjob standoff.

Trump invented a psychological disorder called Trump Derangement Syndrome(TDS), apparently to describe the liberal press. Actually, it's another way of saying "anybody who disagrees or criticizes Donald is nuts". I'm sorry, Donald. You too Press Secretary Sarah. The real Trump Derangement Syndrome happens when Trump amps up, to the maximum, in as demagogic a fashion as possible, the anger and hatred of his base against the media. "The media is the enemy of the people" leads to the behavior seen in Jim Acosta's tweet from Trump's Tampa rally. These are the victims of Trump derangement.

We've seen this behavior from the start of his rallies during the 2016 campaign, the appeal to anger and hatred, and finding scapegoats upon which to focus the anger and hatred once it's stoked. Right from the start in his rallies, and it has continued unabated by Trump. Illegal immigrants, black athletics, Muslims, the media, the press. Each and every one cast as some degree of enemy, each despised in turn by his core supporters. Or, as far as I'm concerned, his cult.

I ask you. This is leadership? I say this is a sad sack low life that directs contempt by his followers against so many "others", in order to maintain nothing less then the power grab of someone who does not care one single iota about this country. If we're truly not better then this, screw it, this country isn't worth two s***s in a bucket. Acosta's tweet from Trump's Tampa rally. This is what happens when you repeat an anti-press mantra in your daily tweets and at every rally.

https://mobile.twitter.com/Acosta/status/1024467940257738752?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed&ref_url=https://d-1730771914257613798.ampproject.net/1531800879103/frame.html

I don't care how much the President dislikes the news media. The news media has every damn right to put Donald Trump under the lens. Freedom of the press is in our bill of rights. And "fake news", by Trump's definition, is any press that criticizes him in the least, or any press that does not act compliant at all times, and in the face of the thousands of lies told by Donald Trump in his tweets, and to the press, since his inaguration. The media is not the enemy of the people, and to say that it is the enemy of the people is the most repeated and predictable mantra and Big Lie of every dictator since the press existed. Trump defenders and Trump apologists both are wasting their breath talking to people like myself. They need instead to open their eyes and understand what attacks like this on a free press represent.

So republicans believe in this guy? I guess he did help prepare Picard to combat the Borg. And I vaguely remember him trying to seduce Capt Janeway for some reason. But what does he know about American politics?

In all honesty, how dumb are republicans? Even TNG folks are getting in on the game of trolling them.

So anyway, maybe this thread has become the go-to repository for all things stupid by Donald Trump. Although, in all honesty, the California wildfires, and the fact the extent of these fires may, as Gov. Brown has stated, be the "new norm" for that state, are worthy of their own environmentally themed(as in Climate change) thread. Be that as it may, here is Trump's response to those fires. For my money, a candidate for the dumbest thing Trump has tweeted as president. Just plain stupid....

I dunno... if all that water weren't draining into the Pacific Ocean, it would be available for the firefighters! ;-)

Solid. Perhaps if we had a President that cared he'd call up the Army core of engineers to build more reservoirs just before the outlets to the ocean. Added Benefit; stock them with fish.

I think Little Dell reservoir was a project similar...

Maybe instead of going trillions in debt giving rich people handouts they didnt need we should’ve invested in infrastructure? That could’ve put a lot of bitter and forgotten white dudes back to work so they wouldn’t be so racist and would be a great investment for the future. Right?
