What's new

Donovan Mitchell's Players Tribune

I think him talking about the team not making excuses is a huge reason for the success. Not the fact that they didn't make excuses, but because that was a by-product of the mentality. A lot of guys out there who complain a lot and offer up excuses. Regardless of talent, it's a poison.

Exactly. Many teams with championship hopes fall into that including our Dwill Boozer teams. Too many soft top players on teams make excuses about trying their best and not TRULY laying it out there and doing what it TRULY takes. So much lip service.
But in reality, I'm not sure if I'd even call it soft. They are probably stronger willed than the majority of humans. But it takes a very special type of personality to be a consistent winner in highly competitive sports or any top profession really. And when it comes down to it that's the real reason so many can't compete with the Duncan Spurs,Kobe Lakers, of the world. Too much lip service and wrong mental makeup. Its rare but Donovan seems to me made of the right stuff to lead this team to a lot of success.

The one thing that could really propel is having Gobert develop some semblance of an offensive game. If he developed one move and jumped to about 15-16 points per game, we’d be such a better team for it.

The whole thing is quotable. If the Jazz don't give this guy as much money as they possibly can they are stupid and deserve to never have a trophy. But here was where the tears were flowing man, and I say that completely unashamed.

Y’all fans showing up like you did — it’s hard to put into words how much it meant to me, in that moment. How much I needed that. And how much I’m going to take that into this off-season, and use it as fuel to get better.

To get Win the West better.

To get Bring a Championship to Utah better.

And that’s just real. The sky’s the limit here. We’ve got the Mayor of Swat Lake City in Rudy. We’ve got one of the most dangerous trios of young guards in the league in myself, Ricky and Dante. We’ve got this group who is going to do it all, both on the floor and in the locker room, in guys like Jae and Joe. We’ve got one of the best — and most underrated, if you ask me — coaches in the league, in Coach Snyder. And man, you already know:

We’ve got the best fans in the world.

It’s crazy to me that only a year ago, I was still deciding whether to even be in the NBA at all — whether to stay in school or to enter the draft. And I made the best decision of my life, no doubt. One, because I had a rookie year I can be proud of. Two, because, man … I just love this league. But maybe most of all, I know I made the right decision because I ended up where I belong.

Playing for this team, for this city.

Jazz fans: I’ll see you around this summer — and I’ll see y’all in October for sure.

Hopefully the next time we hang out at the airport, we’ll bring a trophy.

The way this is shaping up we have a true legend in the making, even if it is just a Utah Jazz legend, and that is something beyond special. I feel that this guy of all guys could lead us to the promised land.

Moses Mitchell.

Wow, what a great article thanks for sharing. I'm so incredibly proud of this last team and excited about this young man.

We are at the beginning of a happy era fellas. Let's Go Jazz.

Gobert and Mitchell bromance confirmed again. I'm praying DL has a bit more draft magic left or sufficient blackmail material to do one more central piece to this team.

Lol.

Honestly, I don't know if we need another central piece. Mitchell might be that good. Think about it, Houston was going toe to toe with Golden State last night with Harden and a bunch of specialists or hustle guys. If they didn't miss 27 straight 3's, they might have won. LeBron beat a better team only armed with role players. If Mitchell can continue to evolve, we just need to make sure we surround him with a number of dynamic guys who support him. Instead of one star, maybe we need 3 PJ Tucker types and Gobert protecting the middle.

Favors gone. Exum staying confirmed.

I can’t wait for the usual suspects to find a way to say that this article means he hates Utah and is destined to play elsewhere.

It was literally just one person who said that.
