FWIW, player contracts do stipulate they do a certain number of team-sponsored community functions, but they get to choose which ones. thing is, vets get the first option, so a lot of the more desirable / less sucky volunteer jobs are off the table by the time someone like favors or jeremy evans gets to pick.
so i can see how it's technically correct to say he's not "required" to travel up and down the state... but he IS required to do something, and if this is what was left on the list by the time the sign-up sheet reached derrick, then yeah, he kind of was "required."
not that it matters. the fact is he enjoys it and tries to make it fun for kids, and that's the important part.
