I didn't watch Conference. I don't know anything about it.

I think Rod Meldrum should be called as an Apostle because he still tries to defend the basic claims of the Book of Mormon. If you don't believe in the Book of Mormon you're not a Mormon.

Not many Mormons left. I am one.

Hey! I know that guy! He lives by my parents and I he used to stop by all the time. Seems like a really nice genuine guy. I dont know anything about his beliefs though, except he is Mormon.

Also... I guess you are of the devil for using that word.

I feel you. Thanks.

I view the LDS faith as a kind of subset of Christianity in the same way Catholicism is. I wouldn’t say either is correct, but that’s neither here nor there.
This helps me understand where Christians who say mormons aren't Christian are coming from.

I always thought other Christians genuinely didn't know that mormons worship christ. It makes more sense that those who consider themselves "christian" as in the religion you follow, have a more narrow sense of the word, where mormons and Catholics view all of the different christ based sects as Christian.

So is the church going to rename the Book of Mormon since they are not allowed to call themselves Mormons. Is that why people outside of the church and in the church just called members mormons?

Not sure exactly what your question is. The Church officials have been using the subtitle "Another Testament of Jesus Christ" for quite a while. Doesn't work to call us "Another Kind of Christian" or "Real Christians" I guess.

So here's the problem. The Old Testament is not an ideological tract. It is simply a compilation of books written across time by pious defenders of "The Covenant of Abraham". You were an Israel by birth whatever you thought of it. Some people joined the Israelite community, but it was no big deal. Other people had no obligation to join.

But the Greek philosophers destroyed that pastoral simplistic cultural notion. There had to be some fundamental claim of "Truth", a compelling claim that could be argued and maintained. And with "Truth" came the necessity of dealing with whoever cared to believe that "Truth".

By the time of Jesus, the little pastoral tradition was in doubt. There had to be political deals with Rome to maintain public order, and with all that, there were of course, serious wealth trappings that went with being the designated controllers of the community.

But Paul really did in the teachings of Jesus as well as the Israelite traditions with his teachings, which are unique in all the scriptural writings, for being pure rational ideology.... one of the oldest successful ideologies.... but nevertheless, a system of beliefs that could be deemed worthy and useful as a State Religion, and an obligation of belief imposed upon the populace. At first, the Romans challenged it as a fundamental threat to their polytheistic smorgasboard, but eventually they bought it hook line and sinker.

The effort to reclaim the human conscience and a human's right of belief cost hundreds of thousands of lives across centuries.

Today is the dawn of a "new" state religion, deemed rational and scientific, which is an even more diabolical imposition of ideology on the human race.

yes indeed, I am a very bad boy. Pres Russel was my brother's doctor. My brother had an enlarged heart from childhood due to a disease, but liked to run distance routes nevertheless. The doc wanted him to come in for some surgery to repair some structures, but my brother wanted "to get in shape first". He died suddenly while "getting in shape".

I don't think Jesus minds people being Mormons. I think the word is useful for it's clarity and simplicity in making distinctions.

I muddle through the issues of a Book of Mormon evidently influenced substantially by the teachings of the Apostle Paul, but then I muddle through the issues of early Christians being diverted as well by those same ideas. I don't blame Jews for wondering about Christians, either.

LDS church: We want less suicide
LDS church: Gays are spawn of Satan.

Good job guys.
This.
Any Church is supposed to mean well but deeds have to follow in a realistic fashion.
If you ask children (CHILDREN!) about their sexual orientation and pornography, I'd say, you create a huge feeling of guilt, which might be just too much a burden to carry.
Hence the increasing suicide rates in Utah!
From where I stand (Middle East? seriously? Forget Middle East), LDS must change its policies on these issues.
