Favors got extended

People comparing this to the AK deal... THIS IS NOTHING LIKE IT. 4/49 is a lot different than 6/86.

Also this is a great well timed deal for the Jazz. If Favors underperforms what we think he will do this year he'd still get a similar offer in the open market, but what if he goes for 15 pts / 12 rebs / 2.5 blks in like 33 minutes? We'd be paying a helluva lot more next Summer than what we just did.

I don't get the complaining on this board. This is fair market value for the guy. He isn't an offensive threat. Probably never will be. But his defense and rebounding alone make up for it. Sure it would be nice if he was a scoring threat too. But if that were to happen we would have to pay 20 mil a yr. I like the deal. Even more so if it's front loaded.

Higher.... I bet he gets 5years!!

I think that 4 is the most that you can sign a players contract for-- unless you give him the max (as per new CBA).

Hayward will only get 4 years. Kanter is the only probable candidate for the max tbh

This^^^^

AK's contract took away our flexibility.....

Favor's deal gives us lots of flexibility!!!

With this deal we can get Hayward, Favors, Kanter and Burks... Under contract for less than we had Deron, Ak, Boozer and Okur!!!

I'm a fan of this DFav contract. ~12 million for one of the most promising bigmen isn't bad for a small market like Utah. It's not a bargain (for now) of course, but this most certainly isn't overpaying him.

I honestly think it is to much. Jazz gambling on potential here. He has not proven he is worth more then 10mil at this point. But since it is Utah we are talking about they need to overpay to keep them from leaving I guess. I hope they don't run out of money when they will need to extend Hayward, Kanter and Burke. Burks as sad as it might be odd man out.

.

to be honest AK showed way more then Favors when he got that contract. He could have gotten the same deal from numerous other NBA teams if left unsigned. Not sure about Favors yet.

Favors wouldn't have gotten 12 million a year from other teams? Seriously?

Nope.. not me.
I'm exclusive.
Then there's a dude running around with your name:)

Sounded like Favors really didn't want to go to a different team and liked it here in Utah. Also I think almost every other team would have paid him the same amount to get him. I think we saved some money here.
Favors has never seemed like a guy that looks for the parties or night life, maybe I'm wrong but his laid back personality is perfect for life in Utah.
So what is he making now. $7.5 approximately. With this deal he is going to make $12 million, man life is good in the NBA. This is why I have no sympathy for NBA owners. I am glad Favors signed a new deal but I would have tried to get him for less. I know maybe they did but it seems like a big raise for not doing very much.

I hope the Jazz know what they are doing because you can draft all the talent in the world and screw it up by overpaying guys like they did with AK and Ostertag. It is only a great deal if Favors gets his act together on the offensive end. Unfortunately it puts Kanter in great position if he outplays Favors. Another concern is now Hayward is going to want Paul George money. So far Hayward has played better than Favors so his agent might just say the bidding starts at $49m.
You need to look at the buissnes side of the NBA if you totally try to lowball him he's just going to play out the year and get even more in a bidding war in the offseason. I would guess in extension talks the player has all the leverage in the negotiations. In order to save money you need to pay more now. Hope to god we extend Hayward soon. What if Hayward puts up 18/5/7. I can see some stupid gm giving him a near max deal just on the numbers alone without really studying or scouting him.
