Favors got extended

Some of you sound like you would just let Favors enter free agency, and then not match an offer over $12 million for him. Cool.

The decision to stick with Favors was made when they allowed Al and Sap to both walk, after that it was simply a decision of extending him now or matching an offer in free agency. The chances of Favors getting offered more in FA were extremely high, so extending him now at the deal they got was the obvious choice.

Yes you are being a homer in regards to Lance, he was almost out of the league a few years ago because of his poor attitude. He has talent but he is very inconsistent and still a little bit of a knucklehead. I agree that Indy was stupid to give George the MAX, I just hope the Jazz aren't stupid either even though they have made a few mistakes in the past. I agree that Harden is a better player than George but in my opinion he hasn't earn the right to be a MAX player either.

Unfortunately, too many very good players or potentially good players are given the MAX. To me you have to be the Main guy or second guy on a team and you have to have proven it over the length of your first contracts. I think MAX deals should be for guys like Kobe, Lebron, Kevin Durant, healthy Derrick Rose, young Dirk, healthy Wade, young Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Carmelo perhaps Chris Paul and Deron Williams when they were at the top of their games not so much recently.

Borderline guys are DW, CP3, Blake Griffin, Kevin Love, Irving, healthy Brandon Roy, healthy Seth Curry.

Cp3, harden, and irving should be max players imo.

STEPH curry and blake, close but not quite

Contract is just fine.... not great, but goos enough.

Now just keep our fingers crossed that the plantar facaitis doesn't plague him no mo

Twoish mil per year overpay is one player on the end of the bench, like the tenth guy. Not a big loss. Enough has been said about his value, and I think he may just be worth it right now if he can handle starter minutes.

Someone mentioned that he needs a point guard. I fully agree. Most everyone agrees that Al needed to go, but now we are wanting Favors to play the same as Al did, namely post up and have some unstoppable post move. He's not that guy, he's a mover who could be much more dangerous if a point guard can get him the ball in the right spot. I believe that Favors best offensive ability is to get the ball on the move and blast it to the hoop. In fact that is what he said isn't it? That he wanted to have offence in the flow of the game? We already have a post anchor in Kanter, we don't need two, and the less those two imitate each other, the better we will be. He does need to develop his shot more to keep his defender up close so he can blow by, but that can be learned. I think he needs to be himself, and if he is a superstar defender and a starting quality offensive player, he's worth more than he's getting.

Edit: concerning Favor's personality, Kanter is the loud noisy type, while favors is the reserved moody type. Another reason that it's ok to have them both, they probably compliment each other even on the personality front.

I know he was a nice little player at Duke but c'mon now :D

chris pol is overrated and irving is injury prone. you don't give max to a guy who misses 30 games a season.

Stephen Curry is a top 10 player when he is healthy imo.

Already enough said in this thread so far, but I wonder what this will do for him psychologically. Is he going to be as hungry/motivated? Is he going to be overly confident in his offense? Who knows? I do think that it is certain that he will have a great year in every category except in offense. If he can begin to click at all offensively, I think he should average around 14 pts/game. I also think, his rebounding is going to be insane from what I have seen thus far.

My predictions:
14, 12, 1.5, 1.5, 2.5 (50%, 70%)

In short, about right for his contract.

I think we've all been assuming that neither Kanter nor Favors would be able to pull down much more than 10 rebounds per since they're playing with each other, but Favors may just prove us wrong this season. I think he might get 12 RPG this season, too.

I think we will see Kanter on the move when the other team makes his shots. That would leave Favors more rebounds and since Kanter runs the floor well it is plausible.

And this is a good deal slightly overpaid but I have seen much more paid only on potential. Favors at least has his defensive skills to command 11.

dude, fish, you usually are spot on but not this time. Stephen a curry is without a doubt a max player. I'd take the Steph Curry of last year over any point guard in the league. That's if he can keep it up and stay healthy. Which I think he will, at least skill wise. Injuries might be a different story. In fact, I'd take a healthy Curry over almost everyone. He's a top 5 player in my book.

I still believe that Kanter/Favors will soon be the best defensive/rebounding frontcourt in the NBA. And both are capable offensively. It's just a really formidable combination.

If we can pair that with a solid PG (please be good, Trey), solid rotation guys (Hayward/Burks) and a top-flight wing (hello 2014 draft)...look out.
