Following potential 2013 draftees

Why? How many defense only 3s do the Jazz need? If the Jazz are adding a wing, they should be adding one who can hit a spot-up jumper and/or do something off the dribble.

Depends on who you are thinking about adding instead of him. I think he still has enough potential just to pick up for the chance he isn't through with some major developments to his game. Yeah, that would give us 3 defensive/non-shooting 3's, but Marvin is going to be gone the following year. It's always nice to have 6'9 super athletic players on the team. Plus, Aminu can rebound from the 3, which is something the team needs.

Really surprised NOLA isn't picking his option up though (if what you say is true). I wonder if it has more to do with salary cap issues than him just being flat out bad.

I like aminu but for me it is either aminu or Carroll. to redundant. then I would take aminu. more potential, but the more pgab talks the less I like some one.

the idea of bringing Howard in is asinine. we don't need him

Aminu intrigues me a little as well. I wouldn't pay a lot for him, but would take him on the cheap. When he has been given minutes, he has produced pretty good. He is a really good rebounder, shot blocker, and steals guy. He isn't known for his offense, but he is young and it could come around. If he is cheap, give it a shot. He doesn't have to start either, just bring him off the bench. He cant be any worse than Marvin at 8 mil a year. The more players we can get at a bargain, the better.

I like him as well.. even though he will NEVER be an offensive threat.

I don't know that he would need to be. If the Jazz pushed the tempo and worked off of turnovers then he would be a valuable piece to a team. Heck, in Ronnie Brewer could find a scoring feel for the Jazz then Aminu could as well.

It seems people don't really understand just how bad Aminu is on the offensive end. Here are the stats on their total points per possession, points per possession on spotups, and percentage of attempts from cuts, O-Rebs and Transition (garbage buckets):

Carroll

Total PPP: 0.98
Spot-Up PPP: 0.79
Garbage Buckets: 42.2%

Marvin

Total PPP: 0.92
Spot-Up PPP: 0.87
Garbage Buckets: 33.2%

Aminu

Total PPP: 0.85
Spot-Up PPP: 0.6
Garbage Buckets: 50.1%

Notes: This past season (12/13), league average for the above stats were 0.96, 0.98 and 29% (I've actually cut out the "All Other Plays" stat from the mysynergysports stats to get this percentage...I have a nice spreadsheet), respectively. League average PPP for the components of "Garbage Buckets" was 1.17 for Cuts, 1.08 for O-Rebs and 1.13 for Transition.

Aminu is a HUGE liability on offense, and a few highlights here and there don't change that. Signing him for the MLE would be laughably bad (almost as bad as trading Gordo and a pick for Shabazz...).

What were Josh Howard's number the year he played with the Jazz?

Overall Josh was worse, but he got a lot of his offense out of ISOs (13.8%...). Anyway, here are the stats:

Josh Howard

Total PPP: 0.8
Spot-Up PPP: 0.67
Garbage Buckets: 29% (which explains why Aminu ranks higher than Howard overall)
