Following potential 2013 draftees

Got an email from Wes and he asked I make this contribution on his behalf.

I'll go on the record and say we need to do everything possible to trade one or both of these picks for first rounders next year, specifically to teams who are consistently in the lottery. If we need to package both to a usual bottom 8 team, we have to do that.

That said, my quick thoughts.

Schroeder = monster bust. He'll do nothing and make excuses. He already is with his "toothache."

Burke = bust. To me, he maxed out his ceiling this year. I see no upside and only a lot of downside where NBA guys are bigger and more athletic and therefore will be on him tighter and won't let him get by them. He'll struggle on offense and be a liability some on defense. To me, he's the classic Ryan Leaf/Jimmer/Akili Smith, I really overachieved for one year type of college guy who gets swept up in the college buzz and momentum.

McCollum/MCW = Could be very good on the right team with the right coach. MCW is def a horrible fit right now and I'm not sure McCollum is a good one but he reeks of Utah Jazz and he's who we get I think.

Shabazz = hate the guy. He may end up scoring 20 a game but he'll be the 20 ppg scorer who doesn't lead and I question if you win with him. If he's there though, you have to take him over everyone else. And then, you try to flip him. Right away. Mid-season after letting him play 30 minutes a night and letting him chuck. Somehow or another you have to flip him because no way he is a piece to the puzzle. Not here with Ty on his first NBA team at least. Now, with someone like Lionel Hollins, yeah it could work.

If Shabazz and McCollum are gone, I'd roll the dice and go with Adetokunbo. Very young. Very well rounded from his defense to his shooting to his handle to his passing. Athletic, maybe even very athletic. What's the worst that happens? He flames out like 60% of these guys anyway? Based on his age and where he's at now and how he's done in workouts, I'd go for him. Especially since I think our young core and Ty would be good for him now as a fit. Nobody else makes sense. A third big. Why? We can sign one cheap or get one at #21. Larkin? No. Too early.

We should target Shabazz (prob impossible), McCollum, Adetokunbo in that order, and could almost certainly get the latter. And at #21, Larkin, or a third big like Olynyk, Dieng, Gobert, or Plumlee will be there.

Next year is point guard rich so reaching for one now, or ever really, is dumb. We could roll out a young core, let them take their lumps but yet develop, and acquire a top 10 pick. Then, we let Ty, Mo, and Marvin walk, and get a legit pg with our top 10 pick next year, and let Lionel Hollins or SVG or someone do wonders.

The Core Four: Enough with the P3. If Favors doesn't come back with noticeable improvement on offense, I'll be annoyed. P3 does next to nothing for them imo. These guys are already athletic and could workout with Jazz trainers. What they need to do is work on their game. Truly work on their game for hours on end.

I agree with a lot of what Wes said. Even though I'd take Schroeder at #14, I can understand why one could see bust potential. I don't see nearly as much bust potential with Burke, however.

I think I was the first to say it. I'd be totally down for Giannis at #14 unless someone unexpected like Bazz falls. He has major upside for a #14 pick, and plays into our "tank for the 2014 draft" strategy since he'll either not come to the NBA next season, or he just won't be a great contributor immediately due to his lack of experience and insane lack of bulk etc.

A talented kid with ample size, showed tremendous growth as a player in the last year, won the Wooden award, and almost led his team to a national championship at 20 years old can't possibly get better. Everyone catch that?

Still remember Gyp pimping out Singleton last year (along with myself). Take his predictions with a grain of salt.

Why doesn't GYP just post it himself?

This is like when a smoker thinks they are quiting tobacco by switching to chewing. They just lying to themselves.

Hahahaha... rep'd for trying to be funny, and it was actually funny!!

I like my metaphors, and that was a pretty good one.

I feel gyp'd.

Burke has great feel, floor vision and the ability to lead a team. He can work off of screens and run plays. He's not uber quick, but he's quick enough.

I do also like McCollum and Giannis. Both could be key pieces.

I do see where Gyp is coming from through... he seems to be all about "Upsides" and Burke doesn't have a lot of it.

Burke will be a steady PG for a team, but I do agree that his upside is limited.
