Following potential 2015 draftees

Per an interview in the NY Times, the problem with the Knicks is that they have no bigs. So when they lost out on Towns or Okafor they started looking at trading back. They would leverage their #4 pick for a quality big if they can get one.

Yeah, I want no part of moving Favors, probably not for anybody in the draft. Towns looks really really good, but at best he's a couple of seasons away, and Favors is ready to go right now. Can't waste seasons in my opinion.

And I sure as hell wouldn't move Favors for #4.

There aren't really a lot of good bigs that are available. The teams that seem to be willing to start over are the Nuggets, the Raptors, any others?... Maybe Valanciunas+20? Faried+Lawson? Faried is not great for the triangle in my books. He might not be great anywhere to be fair...

This is why if I'm the Knicks, I come calling the Jazz and try to talk them out of Favors. I'm not sure the Jazz would bite, but the Knicks would come calling, and this leak about the Suns offering Bledsoe at 13 might be a gambit from the Knicks to try to prod the Jazz.

The Blazers would offer a big or two, but they wouldn't be worth giving up the #4 pick.

The situation is that the Knicks need to leverage this year's #4 pick to try to attract a quality big that's worth said pick. There aren't a whole lot of quality bigs in FA either.

How do you feel about it? Would you really be willing trade Favors in the year him and Gobert built the most soul-crushing defensive front court in the league?

Also, y'all have sold me on Turner. Still don't love the way he moves, but I think he has really improved since the season. And I like that two way potential. I think I'd still have him behind Johnson for guys who could be in our range.

The pick I would love is a move up for Her Lasagna.
.
I'd be ok with most everybody else in our range, with 2 exceptions.
.
The 2 picks I'd hate are Lyles and Dekker.
.
Sleeper pick after super Mario is Frank the Tank. I think the doubters will be wrong about him, especially in the right situation. I think he makes a bigger impact, sooner than most the other guys in our range.

Here is an updated prediction for the draft.

1) Towns
2) Okafor
3) Russell
4) Porzingis
5) Hezonja (Hezonja and Porzingis could flip/flop)
6) Mudiay
7) Winslow or WCS
8) Winslow or Johnson
9) Booker
10) Johnson or WCS
11) Turner or Payne (Turner apparently outplayed Kaminsky in a head-to-head workout)
12) Turner, Oubre, Looney or Lyles (for the Knicks)
13) Turner, Oubre, Looney or Lyles (for the Knicks)

Either the Jazz or Suns will make a deal with the Knicks for #4. I'm still guessing the Knicks want Favors.

The Jazz could also make a deal with the Hornets at 9 to take their choice of Oubre, Turner or Looney before the Heat and Pacers draft.

Stop. Favors ain't goin' nowhere. The Porz hype is officially out of control. I'd take Hezonja ahead of him, and I wouldn't think twice about it. Even then, I'm not trading Favors to get it done. You are underestimating both Favors and the team as a whole.

It's a negotiation that would come down to the last minute for both sides.

Jazz will offer 12, 2 future firsts with some protection, Burke, Hood and expiring deals before they offer up Favors.

Knicks will scour the league for a better deal.
-- Nuggets offer Lawson and/or Faried along with the #7 pick, maybe Nurkic, but he's young
-- Suns make their best offer -- maybe Len or Markieff + 13; Bledsoe on a max deal isn't great.
-- Kings offer basically anyone on their team but Cousins
-- Toronto offers DeRozan, Valanciunas and a pick
-- Pelicans can offer Asik, Ryan Anderson or Holliday, but they can only offer a future pick
-- Boston can offer Smart, Sullinger or Olynyk + #16
-- Charlotte's can offer bigs + 9, but they're not great

But the only deal worth trading #4 for from the Knicks' standpoint would be if they can get Favors or Hayward, imo. That's got to be what they're looking for. Otherwise they should just take Mudiay or Hezonja for themselves.

The Jazz can sit right where they are. They can keep Favors and likely work a trade with Charlotte to get their choice of Turner or Oubre. Looney and Dekker are reasonable choices if they stay at 12. The Jazz aren't in a pinch and have the ability to sit back.

So is Favors + Turner/Oubre/Looney/Dekker a better situation than Porzingis/Hezonja + whomever we get at 12 if we keep it?

It's basically Favors vs. Porzingis vs. Hezonja. I don't think the Jazz would do it for Hezonja, as good as he is.

It's going to be a close call, especially if they think Porzingis can defend well enough. But the Jazz are precisely the team positioned to do a deal like this.

The other thing I thought was interesting is Spence Checketts leaking a rumor about pursuing Millsap. Dave Checketts still has ties to the Knicks, so there could have been a source to this. To me, that looked like a bit of smoke that may have some fire behind it.

FWIW, the Jazz could also take Calderon for Burke and give the Knicks some cap relief to pursue FAs, but that's a relatively small consideration.

It all depends on what the Jazz think of Porzingis. If they think he's Pau Gasol with a sweet jumper, they might do it.

If the Knicks draft Porzingis at #4, I'll say there's a 40% - 50% chance it's for the Jazz.

If they draft WCS, Hezonja or WCS, I'll say it's likely they're keeping the pick.

Chad Ford thinks they should just take Porzingis and be happy.

I say there is 0 percent chance the Jazz trade Favors for a pick.

No way after the rebuild that they have been through would they put it on the line for a draft pick who is not going to contribute for a couple years to winning. There is no way DL is risking his job for that draft pick to be better than Favors, which is less than likely, much less than likely. Jazz would rumored to be trading for the #1 pick which may or may not have been the case. They told Favors he was not being offered. And that was for Wiggins who is much more likely to be great than Porz is. I would trade Favors for Wiggins still but it would be sad to see him go.

Whoever they take, I'd say the chance it is for the Jazz is about 0.0001%... I don't see it. To me it sounds preposterous in our situation. If you trade your franchise PF in the year you are supposed to contend for the playoffs what does that say to your other franchise players? How would Gordon react when he gets another weak 19 year old that needs to be baby-sat for 2-3 years before he produces? I think if that happens the chance of you losing Hayward in 2 years increases dramatically. I'd say he almost certainl bolts out of Utah and goes somewhere where he won't be made to waste his best years on a perpetually rebuilding team.

I like Hezonja and Russell. And then Turner. Trading up to 9 should get Turner but not the others. I was kinda meh on Porzingis until the private workout everyone was gushing, but then I read something by a guy who apparently had watched Porz in games and said the private workout hid all his flaws. He was still pretty high on him but not a part of the salivating herd.

He can't pass and he doesn't get to the line. 2 things that certainly won't show up in a 1 on none workout.
