And teams overpay players all the time, you just hope its not the team you support. Look at Rudy Gay for a quick example.

Never been an All-Star, never been on an All-NBA team and a team STILL paid him a max contract.

Jefferson is not coming off his rookie contract. Yes, teams overpay young stars and centers (just like we overpaid Kirilenko). Jefferson with get extra for being a center, maybe more than we would like, but he's not young anymore. He will be market-priced.

If Jefferson is as awful as you say, he won't get a big deal. You don't really think you know better than the professional scouts around the league, do you?

I agree we don't need three large salaries in two positions, but I don't see Jefferson commanding a large salary, and if he does, it won't be on the Jazz.

Al is a 20/10 guy. He will get at least as much as he is getting now. There are three "top" bigs this summer. Dwight, Bynum, and Al. The Lakers won't let Dwight go, and the 76ers have said said they are resigning Bynum. Al will get paid. I would not be surprised if he gets close to the max, but he will get paid at least as much as he is making now.

The problem with Al isthe same problem Tracy McGrady, Stephon Marbury, etc had. They aren't team players. They provide a net negative to their team. Al will get you 26 and 11, but he will also give up 34 and 15 to the opposition. He doesn't help on defense.

Because of his offense, he will get paid. Because of his defense, whoever pays him will get screwed.

Jefferson is YOUNG. He is 28. He is in his PRIME. He can get a four year deal, so he will be 32 when his contract is up. He will get at least 15 million a year, if not more (if Dallas and Atlanta decide they both want him). He isn't even close to old, and won't be old when his next deal expires.

I've been fascinated by what the Jazz are going to do with Jefferson for the last couple of years. I thought for sure they would do something this year before the trade deadline. I'm willing to bet that there are people in the Jazz FO that want to resign Big Al to the max. Chris Sheridan (not sure if he knows what he is talking about) thinks that because there aren't many big free agents, that Big Al will for sure get a max contract.

I'm pretty sure that the Jazz priority would be to resign Paul, and if that doesn't work out...watch out, because they will want to resign Big Al. The melt down on this board will be epic if that happens.

Listening to the Locke and Checkets podcast and they're claiming that the GM knows the Al stats subtly meaning, in the context that Locke is saying it in, that the FO is not going to sign Al next season.

Also they're asking, does Paul Milsap really want to be here next season? And the answer to that is maybe, maybe not. Remember, Paul signed the contract to Portland but we forced him to stay here. Then, Paul got the extension and rejected it. Very possible that we don't have either of them next year.

So, is he old? You are arguing with me over the word young. I say he is young and in his prime. You say he isn't. So, is he old? What do you think he is?

I didn't say I evaluate talent better than other NBA teams (ironically, you are doing the same thing as I am, just with a different opinion). I just said that Al isn't good for the Jazz.

Other teams may need a guy who can get you 20 pts on 20 shots a night. And those other teams are going to value that at a LOT of money, especially considering the fact that Al is durable, YOUNG, and entering/in his PRIME.
