Game 4 Reaction

32 year olds rarely improve.

First year after an Achilles is usually a lost year. He was productive... by improve I mean improve year over year and get back closer to what he was pre-injury. As a full time 4 I think he will be very effective.

DL gave a 1st for him and Utah went on a tear after he got things figured out and Rudy got back. Hell. Yes. We're. Locked. Onto. Him.

We also spent a super high lotto pick on Dante... I’m not sure both are on the roster in 2 years.

It is just unlikely he'll get back to his 28 year old form at 32 after an achilles injury. Never happened with Matthews. Or really anyone else I've ever heard of. Can you give me an example of a guy who came back from an achilles at 30+ and regained his form? If anything, I expect him to decline next year.

Wes got better year over year... the first year is a get back to form year... extended rehab. He likely is not 28 year old Rudy... but he’s in a better role as a full time 4.

If it was a one year deal I don’t think it’s bad but whatevs.

Rudy Gay's production per minute didn't change much. He just played a lot less minutes. We could use a post player, but I don't know about him. We need a better post passer.

Fair enough.

If Exum gets a long term deal it will either be a home run or a deal that hurts our cap space... I don’t think there is an in between there.

Favs is going to have a rough market and I think he comes back on a one year deal. I don’t think Atlanta will sign him... they are likely drafting a big (unless they get Doncic).

Phoenix maybe? I don’t see the team that wants him and offers the full MLE.

I think Dante may find a really limited market. Atlanta is the big one there... complete rebuild and have space. I don’t see them going more than 4/40 though.

We need to keep about 35M open for 2019... we may have to let Ricky walk to get there.

35 mil for who tho ? Realistically

KD will get monster max. If GSW want to get cheap on Klay then they will trade him before he expires. They likely pay the tax and trade off Iggy before they decline to give Klay the max. The following year I’ll bet they let Green walk if he gets a huge offer.

KD is opting out to restructure his contract again.

Offer Rubio 4/65 and Favors 4/35. Match Exum up to 4/30.

I really don’t think other teams are jumping at the last two. Christ, look at the bargain that is Lou Williams. There are more productive, healthier players out there to be had for the little money teams do have to spend. As far as Rubio, I don’t see him getting some big deal next summer for a multitude of reasons and I think he loves playing under Quin and isn’t hung up on money.

Agree. Rubio should stay for cheaper than market but I think we need to say goodbye to Favs.

His midrange is terrible and has no low post presence so we are basically playing two centres when we start him and Rudy.

Need a max slot open... may not use it on one FA but if we had a slot open it gets us in those conversations.

I agree BD. We might overspend on somebody because there will be a number of teams after a handful of good players. We don't need a bidding war.

I personally think we should use our unique contracts (23.5 million of expirings and non-guaranteeds) to be aggressive. Either get a player or a high draft pick.

I think that a trade is going to be the best avenue to improve - especially with Burks balling and the non-guaranteed contracts offering real-time cap relief.

Houston didn’t have a max slot, but they got CP3 this past offseason. OKC didn’t have cap space, but landed Paul George. Boston? Kyrie Irving. Detroit? Blake Griffin.

Last year alone, DL traded Lyles + #24 for Donovan Mitchell. Traded the OKC 2018 pick for Ricky Rubio. Traded the unhappy Hood/Johnson expirings for 2.5 years of Jae Crowder. Added Udoh, Sefalosha and Jerebko for peanuts (and valuable non-guaranteed assets.) And as an afterthought, he picked up the promising Royce O’Neale off the scrap heap.

Can’t wait to see what he does this offseason with (I’m assuming) a mandate to be aggressive and shift into win-now team building.

The difference between those teams and us is that they had assets and the players they acquired had leverage. Kyrie, PG, Chris Paul all wanted out.
