JJ Barea has been picked up by Dallas, meaning that Gal Mekel will be waived. Should the Jazz go after him (presumably by waiving Toure Murry)?
To bid on him through the waiver wire (if I'm understanding right) would cost $2 million ($1.75 million to pick up Mekel's 2-year guaranteed contract/$250K guarantee eaten on Murry).
Jazz, along with perhaps some other teams, could also hope he passes through waivers and go after him on a cheaper/shorter deal.
Why would the Jazz consider it?:
- Have openly liked Mekel in the past
- Mekel a more true PG than Murry or Clark
- Mekel had a very good preseason this month
- Mark Cuban yesterday called Mekel the Mavericks' most improved player over last year
