Gordon Hayward: The Need to Explore Elsewhere | The Sports Post

Food for thought...

This article sounds like a Butler grad or Celtic fan wrote it. The fact that he thinks Hayward can be replaced with Wiggins or Parker is partly true but if the Jazz draft Wiggins than Hayward plays SF and if they draft Parker than Hayward moves to SG. The odd man out is probably Burks. Hayward can play some PG in spot minutes too.

What is it going to come down to when he makes his decision? MONEY!!!! Not a chance to look around. Either Hayward takes the offer Utah gives him or he takes the offer the free market sets. Yes there are other factors but MONEY!!!! is usually a major factor.

When Hayward's RFA contract offer is recieved by the Jazz, they will already know where they're drafting and who that pick will likely be. THAT will have a much greater impact upon their decision to match than the offer itself.

Fixed.

Article: "Hayward doesn't have what it takes to be a go-to player. He should leave Utah and go to Boston where he'll be the go-to player, but it's OK because Brad Stevens."

Yep, that's what I was going to point out. Second point is that Hayward is playing SG, but can also play SF. Parker or Wiggins will play the other wing. No need for Hayward to take a seat on the bench. If anything, Hayward gets even more chances to put up assists and can sit in the corner shooting 3's. Gordon is going to be a lot better when he's not shouldered with the burden off being the only shooter on the floor.

Always confused when reading a post that assumes we'll have to pay a lot of money to keep Alec. How is the 6th man on the worst team in the league (shooting .375 from the field, .227 from 3) worth more than $5MM/year? Point is probably moot, I think Alec does not match Lindsey's vision of a future of sharp shooting wings.
Exactly. Alec will not be in a Jazz uniform after his rookie contract. He's replaceable. Jazz need a guy who can hit some outside shots. Besides, If Alec can't do that, he's NOT going to attract a huge contract as a FA. I think he'll be dealt in the summer for a veteran (i.e. from a team wanting to cut some salary). With so many young players the Jazz could use a GOOD veteran.

If we're going to use Hayward to be our 3pt specialist, I wouldn't pay $10M+/yr for him...it's cheaper to get a guy like Korver instead.

Winner! Don't say that too much or people will twist that into you saying CJ Miles is a better player than Hayward.

And for the record, I'd rather have CJ or Korver for 4 per than Hayward for 10+ per.
