Gordon Hayward: Underdeveloped = Underrated

Baloney - as I said in another post, Hayward is mentally fragile. That's at least 75% of his problem. I think he dwells on his mistakes - especially with his shooting. He shoots "scared" for games at a time. You can tell by his body language that he's more afraid of missing than confident he's going to make it.

Sure there are probably a couple of things that Hornacek/Stevens can do to put him a better position to be successful. But you got to be kidding yourself to think he's some unpolished all-star in the making.

He seemed to do pretty well at Butler.

He almost won a National Championship at Butler. He was their go to guy.

Cav's gonna offer max dollars to screw us(since the Jazz will match).

Payback for the Boozer shenanigans.

That's the chance Utah would take by not matching.
In the end, I think it's too risky for Utah NOT to match. If Hayward turns into an all-star with better coaching elsewhere, Lindsey loses his job. We had the chance to match. We'd still be under the cap. Jazz can still extend Burks, Kanter and then Burke and Gobert without going into the luxury tax.

Do I think Hayward should get the MAX? Hell, no! But Utah gambled and LOST...BIG TIME! They could have MAXED him last summer for a LOT less ($13.7M). Imagine the melt down on this board had Hayward gotten that much. Instead, the Jazz said, "prove it." All he had to do was impress one team; and he did that with Cleveland. Now he's getting nearly $16M/per for 4 years. But two of those seasons are when the Jazz will be under the cap and would pay the money out anyway (up to the floor). So it's really the last 2 years that matter.

Jazz have 11 days to make their decision. It's going to be interesting.
