Looks like House Repubs are going to plunge us into another government shutdown, costing our country billions. Sigh
McCarthy has a real problem. He’s going to need Democratic support to pass anything. But he can’t get that without burning bridges with the dumbass caucus (led by Gaetz and Handy Bobo) threatening to take away his speakership. But by shutting the government and showing how incapable his party is at governing, it may just well cost his party the House in 2024.
It makes it really hard to govern when your districts are gerrymandered all to hell and people know that their ticket to re-election/higher office is to pander to the extremes. Gaetz is supposedly eyeing the gubernatorial mansion in Florida since DeSantis is termed out and sees an opportunity here to score pts with Florida’s dumbest and most extreme by making McCarthy’s life hell.
I feel bad for all those folks in the coming weeks who’ll go without paychecks because we have a Republican House. Maybe it’ll serve as a lesson to voters? Probably not, sadly, voters in this country have memories of goldfish. Otherwise, we’d stop doing this to ourselves:
