What's new

Guys, we are only 2.5 games out of the 3 seed. And only 4 out of the 2.

15-0 runs to a 12-15 team as recently as last night gives our record more of a tin foil lining feel.

I think our most concerning problems early were with the main players not jelling... the floaters and Joe struggles seem to have corrected a bit... the bench is a solvable problem, so in general I'm happy with our record and think our current issues could work themselves out a bit. Getting the bench to terrible instead of ****ing awful should be a thing that can happen.

I love the positivity! There is a lot to be excited about.

Right now we have 6 players that work well with each other and who are really good in any combination (Gobert, Mitchell, Bojan, Ingles, Royce, & Conley). There is clear improvements in the team chemistry (to be expected with so much turnover). In the playoffs our rotation will probably be 8 players, and some teams have had success with only a 7 man rotation. That means all we need is one or two improvements to the bench and we are the team everyone hoped for.

The two missing rotation players might already be on the roster. Mudiay is improving, Davis is under performing (but shows signs of improvement), and Green historically is more focused in the playoffs as well. Or maybe we make a trade for the missing piece, or pick up a buyout guy. The fact is, our core is really good and depth becomes less important in the playoffs.

My concern is that while good teams will sometimes take a while to get going, there are usually signs of that along the way. I haven't seen much from the Jazz. It's not like we have the occasional game that you can point to and say "this is what we'll look like when we get some consistency."

We're 8-8 in the last 16 games. The 8 wins have come against teams with a .348 combined record. The recent stretch of 4-1 has also been against teams with a record of winning one in three of their games. Last time we beat a team that went into our game with a winning record was 40(!!) days ago. That's the last time this team actually looked okay against good teams, the three day stretch where we beat the Sixers and the Bucks. At home, mind you. Away, we've basically beaten the Wolves and the Grizzlies.

The Jazz have flat out been terrible for the amount of talent of this team. You can point to the fact that we do have a winning record, or that the schedule has allegedly been tough, but the fact remains that the Jazz have so far shown that the only teams they can win against are the early season favourites to land the #1 pick. We beat 3 teams who currently have a winning record. We beat the Clippers without PG and Kawhi, we beat the Sixers without Simmons, and I suppose we beat the Bucks at full strength, thought it required a serious of improbable events down the stretch.

Can anyone say that they've seen one game this year where they thought "Hey, if we play like this in the playoffs, we might make some noise?"

Fair counter point to the OP. Can't say I disagree

Yup. Good teams don't give up nearly 20 point runs... REGULARLY. Hate to say it, and I'll still celebrate the small victories, but we suck and only a homer would think otherwise. We are too damn small. Hoping we get better but not holding my breath.

Screw it, I'll come play power forward.
