Your pic also indicates that maybe you're the descendent of great, great grandfathers and grandmothers who were, in their particular ways..... but you've probably fallen for some different rationalization of the economy and the world, right? But let's end the buzzwords and un necessary hate on socialism/communism now. They're social systems, just like monarchies, theocracies, oligarchies, republics, and democracies.
A Cardiologist doesn't hate on an Otolaryngologist. They'll actually learn from, listen to, and even request consults from each other.

humans are naturally "social" and have always organized economically to address common problems. What we don't need is egghead university profs preaching ideological dreams of utopia. Or fascist governance pedaled to the public as something benign.
My wife is right, of course. I'm not adverse to interstate highways planned and constructed by the Federal government, or huge water desalination plants dotting our coasts being built with federal assistance, or interstate water projects like NAWAPA. . . . well. . . . that one is also international in scope, and like other possible international projects along the same idea, could really improve the prospects for life worldwide.
I keep misreading this as a "Happy Mother's Day" thread...

When you get old enough, it's OK to live in the past.
It's psychologically healthy when you're too experienced to expect anything better in the future, and too worn out to do anything today.
In the movies, a "commie" is someone who's "Leader" has lots of statues of himself in every town square, owns the newspapers outright, and claims to be riding the inevitable wave of the future as a symbol of Hope and Change for the downtrodden ordinary folk.
In my view, though, a "commie" is a dupe who believes what the newspapers say, believes in social progress as a sort of politically-correct world view, and supports global fascism sorta like just being a wannabe fan of the winning corporate logo. And loves filling up volumes of lawbooks with statutes.
Historically, "socialists" are people who read textbook theories about how governments can create a durable and equitable social system for everybody under feudal governance with central planning. . . . . as dictated by an ill-defined leadership class of wealthy individuals who just simply are too noble to exploit the system for their own advantage.
Being a rebel against everything, I think the statues are over-rated, the newspapers are just stupid, and people just get pillaged by every sort of government, and there's no hope for any change unless people just stop rolling over for all this abuse. Burn the lawbooks, not the inner cities. And make those dumb blokes who staff government bureaucracies do something constructive, and never let any politician get elected twice.
