Has there ever been a team w/zero players on the roster drafted by the team?

I think Udoka is the only player on the roster right now, but once the season ends and his contract expires and before we sign the next draft class, we'll at least temporarily have no drafted players on the roster, correct?

Lottery or non, I feel a little childlike Christmas anticipation this year for a draft overseen by a guy that has a proven record for recognizing talent and potential.

I'm definitely excited to finally have some excitement about the draft for the first time in years but I'm also a little apprehensive because Ainge has mixed in a ton of stinkers with his great picks and I have no idea what to think of Zanik yet. Lucky for the celtics they had so many picks because Ainge really struggled with picks late lottery through 30.

2011- Jajuan Johnson with 27th pick
2012- Jared Sullinger with 21st pick
2012- Fab Melo with 22nd pick
2013- Kelly Olynyk with 13th pick
2014- James Young with 17th pick
2015- Terry Rozier with 16th pick
2015- RJ Hunter with 28th pick
2016- Guerschon Yabusele with 16th pick
2016- Ante Zizic with 23rd pick
2018- Robert Williams with 27th pick
2019- Romeo Langford with 14th pick
2019- Grant Williams with 22nd pick
2020- Aaron Nesmith with 14th pick
2020- Payton Pritchard with 26th pick
2020- Traded 30th pick to griz which was Desmond Bane

He has some good ones in there but more often than not he picks a bust or an underwhelming player.

Yeah but show me a GM with any more than maybe 3 or 4 real hits in that many picks that late in the draft, meaning at least rotation players, let alone stars. The draft is so much guess-work. No GM nails it every time. Most of their records would really look like this.

There is no GM with any length of service that does not have stinkers. The draft is a crap shoot. The most absurd comparisons I see on this board are people complaining about a player we could have taken. In essence you are comparing one team to every other team in the league. Flame away but DL was in the upper 1/3 in his draft picks. I think Ainge will be as well but there is nothing magical about DA.

Amen.

Plus its not Ainge alone. He carries the responsibility, but its always more of a hivemind thing.

Some teams have one or more guys they want to see thumbs up from.. but its not always obvious who it is.

Last year I learned two NFL teams who generally draft well above average (one was Patriots for sure and the other maybe Ravens?) had some savant young guy who their coach/GMs turned to before making the call.

I mean if Belichick and Harbaugh specifically ask some 30 year old dude if he is ok with their pick.. you know that dude is special.

There no way of getting around that being a mediocre hit rate for picks out of the top 10. That is one of the reasons why I just laugh when some posters say we already have enough picks moving forward when it comes to what we want with trades. Odds are every pick from Minny and the Cavs is outside the top 10 and most likely out of the lottery. Ainge is great with those top picks but we need as many bites at the apple as possible with those later picks though because he is going to draft a lot of busts. It is a bummer that things haven't worked out and probably won't get the chance to see him draft in the top 5 with our pick over these next few years. The one thing that I think gets mixed up with Ainge is that he is exceptional when it comes to acquiring assets. He isn't exceptional at using assets.

Sorry but complaining about guys we could have taken is 100% valid. The Udoka pick was dumb as hell and everyone on this board knew it. McDaniels and Bane we absolutely guys that we were talking about and wanted and end up with a terrible pick. Same goes for the Tony Bradley pick. We were just saying what the ****. Then of course after each pick we had DL come out and say they had both players rated in the top 5 of the draft to make everyone think we got a steal. The worst was probably the Trey Lyles picks where almost every jazz fan on the message boards wanted Devin Booker and we end up with Trey Lyles. DL made 2 great picks with Gobert and Mitchell and one solid pick in Hood. Surrounded by that you have a ton of stinkers that I hated from the get go based on who was still on the board. Even the Gobert thing was crazy lucky. The rumor is that the jazz loved Gobert yet they took the risk of trading 14 and 20 to get Burke and possibly not being able to get back into the draft to snag Gobert. That makes no sense if they really liked Gobert that much. Of course I also heard that they had Burke as the highest rated pg going into the draft since Chris Paul. The fact that they had him rated that high makes you concerned how they come up with there ratings.
