Was pretty hardcore into the NBA during the Deron Williams/Boozer era, Millsap/Al Jefferson, Hayward/Burks/Kanter/Favors eras. I lost a lot of my NBA interest during the Kevin Durant GS ERA. That move was so weak that it killed so much of my interest in the sport. I've been slowly getting back into it, and I figured this year is when I'll dive back into my league pass and my Jazz fandom.

I missed a good chunk of the Mitchell/Gobert ERA, but from what I saw it was nothing to write home about. What's the current team looking like?

Who are the top pieces, who are the young players with the potential and who are the valuable role players? What's the coaching situation looking like?
 
The Mitchell and Gobert era was mostly great, so you definitely missed out. Both players were unique and amazing and complemented each other with their strengths and weaknesses. Ultimately it was disappointing in how it ended with lots of blame to go around, but even though it wasn't good it was at least interesting.

The current team is still in discovery mode. It's a little awkward with having a legit stud in his prime on this team, but nobody else is really ready to be competitive. Hopefully the keepers become clear this season and we pick up a franchise level player in the draft. That's really what we are hoping for.
 
Look this year is the season to check in and out here and there but we will be a bottom 5 team. If you enjoyed the year we tanked for Exum this year might be for you. If not you can wait a year. Next year should be more fun.

Welcome back. I will try to summarize some key points going forward.

Lauri Markkanen came from Cavs in the Donovan Mitchell trade and has been undoubtedly the best player for the Jazz the past 2 years. 7 foot high volume sharpshooter who also loves to posterize guys whenever possible. Won MIP and got to All-Star game in 2022-23 and has posted 24/8 type averages past two years. Plays mostly off the ball and doesnt have a great dribble game, so rather unconventional skillset for a star level guy. Also just signed a 238M/5y deal.

Second notable vet is Collin Sexton who is a blast to watch. Undersized lightning in a bottle combo guard who can put up points in a hurry. Both Sexton and Lauri are actually close to 50/40/90 guys in efficiency as well.

Other vets are servicable to good but not necessarily part of any future core.

Key young guys:
  • Keyonte George: 2nd year combo guard who was drafted #16 in 2023 and showed flashes of star level offense last year. Defensive deficiencies, sulking and quitting after mistakes, turnovers and inconsistent efficiency (esp on 3pt shooting) are areas of improvemement to monitori next year.
  • Walker Kessler: 3rd year traditional big who had a super promising rookie year (earned him NT stint) but had a bad sophomore year. One of the best shot blockers in the league but too soft for a big and has no offensive bag. Hopefully he gets back on track this year.
  • Taylor Hendricks: #9 draftee in 2023 who is the most physically gifted young guy we have and has a chance to become an elite 3&D wing defender.
  • Cody Williams: Last drafts #10 pick who we hope has a ceiling at a level resembling his brother Jalen (plays for OKC). Needs to fill his frame to become physically elite but has a little bit of everything in his skill set.
Two other rookies and 1 other 2nd year guy as well but those are the top prospects on paper. Kyle Filipowski (32nd pick in last draft) gets an honorary mention for being our best kid in SL and the guy our vets seem to believe being the most NBA ready.
