How do we fix this team?

If Rubio would settle for a back-up role and less money, I think we should keep him. The incentive for him is being part of a championship team that this would allow the Jazz to be.

If it was any other place than LA Harris would be their priority one in the off-season. But the Clips have a ton of cap space next year and will be in the conversation for virtually every marquee FA name. So anything is possible.

If not Nikola is a more than a decent consolation prize.

Jazz need to land one of these two guys - if not and instead preach the advantages of picking up Taj Gibson on a two year deal with a team option then this FO goes right back into suspect mode.

I don't know how we fix things... everything just seems so damn hard for us right now. We aren't playing with consistent effort of the two years prior. It's a bit disconcerting.

For the non-trade category. Quin could afford to tighten up the rotation a bit, our bench has not played well (outside of Crowder who should probably be starting). We're one of the few teams that seems to give 10+ guys real run every night and we don't really need to. It's been a bit tricky with some injuries/suspensions to start the season, but it's something to look at going forward.

The starters + Crowder absorb most minutes, and we really only need 2-3 guards/wings after that. Burks has played the best so far and Exum's been alright.

Could it be that we are overachieving because of our coaching staff, and that is why when we have an off-game, we are blown out, because our talent level is marginal?

I have two thoughts, the first (and most significant) is we need to establish a team identify. Second, I think we need to take AB out of the rotation.

Last year there was a clear formula on how we would win games. Even casual fans knew what the game plan was (to be elite on defense). Even the offense was designed to support the identify (move the ball so that there was defensive buy-in, make the other team work the entire shot clock, slow the game down to set up the defense). Every player understood the approach and playing time was based on contributing to the defense. Having a clear identify would help coaches communicate to players their role and guide them to excel in it.

Relatedly, this year the team identity seems to be more focused on offense than defense (high lobs, "smarter" shot selection/lots of 3 balls, etc.). Given this shift in identity, it doesn't surprise me that the Favors/Gobert lineup is struggling. They were never going to be good on offense, but really hit the stride when focused on defense.

As for AB, I think he is a decent player, but he just doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the system. I sometimes see him come in the game and do well, but rarely see him come in the game and see the system/other players do better. The idea of shortening the rotation was floated earlier, I would start with his minutes.

Hey, I have an idea...let's start a GoFundMe to raise enough cash for Dennis to spend on a free agent. It's clear the Jazz must be close to bankruptcy. Utah is again in the bottom half of the league in terms of payroll. C'mon you guys, buy jerseys, spend hundreds of dollars at games. Save the team!

They’ll work it out. I am only alarmed at the lack of cohesion and communication defensively that has led to way too many breakdowns and easy baskets that didn’t happen last year. By jan / feb we’ll be fine but it might get uglier first

The rare salient point

The Jazz were 6-10 exactly a year ago. They're now 8-8.

They averaged just 99.0 PPG, 19.6 APG and 16.4 TOPG. They're at 106.8 PPG with 23.2 APG and 15.4 TOPG so far this season, despite being terrible from the line (71% to 83% last season), which has also cost them a couple of games. They could easily be 10-6 if they had just made their FTs.

Relative to the rest of the league, they were 26th in ORTG and 9th in DRTG with a -2.9 NETRTG whereas they're 22nd and 14th now with a -1.1 NETRTG, and that's including the 50-point dud against the Mavs that's had a strong impact due to the small sample size.

This board was going nuts a year ago, at such an early point of the season people were questioning Mitchell, Rubio, Ingles, Gobert, the FO and even Snyder... And you could read threads titled "Trade Gobert", "We Suck", "It's time for a true direction", "Bring back the triple wing and bring Rubio off the bench", "All-in for the tank" and of course "Central Tank Command: the official thread", which was already 13 pages long. Fast forward two months into mid January and threads were even worse. Fast forward a couple more weeks and people were starting to hop on the playoff bandwagon and singing Rudy, Rubio and Mitchell's praises, saying "I'm sorry" and "I'm so happy to be eating crow".

Stop whining, have some patience, and f***ing learn from the past. The Jazz are in a better position than they were a year ago, they're adapting to the new defensive rules, they're healthier and they're better pretty much across the board. They may ultimately fall out of the playoffs... or they may end up getting HCA just as easily, just like any team in the conference other than the Warriors, the Rockets (another fanbase that was freaking out stupidly 10 days ago) or the bottom feeders. They are not a championship contender (you could say no one is these days except for the All-NBA team playing in GS), but these guys were great on the second half of last season and they made some noise in the playoffs before Ricky got injured. Give them time, let them find their groove, deal with the bad nights and celebrate the good ones, and let's see where the team is come the All-Star break.

When was I whining? I was asking questions and was curious about others opinions. That is all. I think it's fair to ask these questions after a 50 point L. I think that you brought up some interesting points though.
