I just don't. He isn't very good. Utah really needed his offense when Bogey went down, but when he is healthy I think the benefits we get from him will fall off.

He doesnt defend and he plays with blinders on. His scoring is nice, but even when he's at his best, I don't feel like it's a very positive thing for the team overall.

Personally I think the Jazz are probably better off signing a guy like Justin Holiday. The Jazz really need to get better at defense, and part of that is getting rid of your worst defensive players.

...waiting for your thread about Condiddley, then.

This take is hella suspect since you continue to homer for Hood who was toxic dog **** for us whenever we actually needed him, BEFORE refusing to enter a game and BEFORE tearing his achilles. He's also always been dog **** at defense or anything requiring any grit.

What about Cy’s total refusal to even debate whether Conley should start or finish games?

I don't know. Cy has some of the best and worst takes on the board. Definitely has some biases that just aren't ever going to change, like thinking Rodney Hood should play for the Jazz ever again or having his weird axe to grind about Jae (they are directly related).

If he can't see how VITAL Clarkson was for us and how that can continue to be useful, I'm not sure what could change his mind. It's basically what this thread is about; "I don't want Clarkson back. I just don't."

homer? Relax man. I'm in no way a homer for him.

And even with his poor D, he's still better at it than Jordan Clarkson.

It’s clearly impossible to listen to him talk about defense right now without snickering.

Anyway, re-signing JC ain't do or die for me, but he was critical to the Jazz even making the playoffs this year and that shouldn't be dismissed or discounted. Scorers that are fine coming off the bench fill a real role, and he could be good ballast in a future trade.

A lot of his value hinges on what happens with Conley or if we draft a PG like Maledon this year. If we're on the path to Conley walking (I think we are) and aren't drafting a promising guard (I don't think we are), then I think keeping JC is pretty important.

If we could've agreed to a re-negotiated deal + extension with Conley AND we knew Conley was fine coming off the bench, I'd be good walking on JC. That isn't what happened.

I don't care for Clarkson much either. He played well for us, but IMO his contribution is not worth what it's likely to cost us to get him back and that money can be better allocated elsewhere.

this is spot on for me... will add to it though -

JC/Conley/DM has some redundancy and similar weaknesses. Having them all is a bit of a luxury that is fine if you don't have other needs. JC's deal will prevent us from using the MLE if he is retained. He has his weaknesses but he's a more efficient scorer than Mike and does it on greater volume and will cost 1/3 the price.

Mike is more balanced but he should be a super sub... something either he doesn't believe or jazz management doesn't. Please spare me the bubble Mike or he wasn't healthy or blah blah blah... he isn't nearly the fit we thought he was and has likely declined. He had a good shooting stint and a good playoff... Ricky also had a better shooting stint and better numbers over the same period... so guys can ebb and flow. Expecting Bubble Mike or post AS Mike is unreasonable. He will likely have some nagging injuries this year too.

So I agree with the take in that I think Mike or JC could be used for more value and could be used to balance the roster... I just think it should be Mike not JC... especially since Mike is out next year and could be traded for something more impactful.

So we're going to go back to pre-Christmas 2019 when The Jazz bench scored 8 to 11 points a night and Holiday is going to make it all back on defense with a 5 man set that includes Conley, Niang, Bradley/Morgan and an aging Ingles?

Also he's about to be on his seventh team in seven years - maybe possibly an issue there?

On what Earth is JC far more efficient scorer than Conley?

He was barely more efficient this year. For their careers Conley is the more efficient scorer. Next year Conley will be the more efficient scorer.

Don’t we have his Birds Rights? If so, sign him and his replacement and work out a trade at the deadline.
Clarkson's gonna have value and having superfluous NBA talent is a GOOD thing since we're gonna only have trades and late draft picks to get better.

Furthermore, this is THE year to get a team-friendly deal that increases the market-value on a player down the road.

I just think the odds that Clarkson re-signs on a good deal on good years are much, much higher than Conley doing so after next year, and we need at least one of them.

Also, Conley's ****ing old and tiny, y'all. Let's just be very real about that.

On this earth... You just ****ing said it! I give zero effs what Conley has done over his entire career. JC is in his prime and Mike is on the backside or end of his career.

This year TS% for JC with Utah - 56.9% Mike was 53.7%

Scoring per36 - 23 for JC 18 for Mike

Mike is well rounded and a better creator but you don't get extra beauty points for getting points within the system. Jordan doesn't really miss games either... and he will cost like $20-25M less this year.

Even the Warriors needed KD to deviate from the beautiful game sometimes to just get a ****ing bucket. JC does it in iso and is a one man bench scoring unit, but some defense and shooting around him and play him 24 minutes a night and its worth 10M a year.
