What's new

If Gordon would get tossed for fighting back, who is supposed to respond?

the morning-after reaction on twitter:

From @sluhm — Raja Bell: "[Hayward] gets picked on. But I think Gordon knows what he's doing. I think there is some Reggie Miller to that."

@tribjazz - Hayward got some grief about not standing up for himself. He said he did. He played it smart, stayed in game, West went out, Jazz won.

@tribjazz - Several Jazz players said they still haven't seen West's finger magic. Only heard about it. (confirming my theory that several guys didn't even see/realize what had happened)

here's what bell means when he said "there is some reggie miller to that." man, i love this quote, it makes hayward seem like the crafty veteran who knows how to provoke without ever losing his cool -- like when harpring baited artest into getting tossed a few years ago.

Lead-up to the willy: He bumped me and it's, 'OK, he's obviously frustrated.' Then when he did the second one, it's like, 'Man, we've got him right where we want him.' ... We got the last laugh with the win.

You are failing to see the difference in say, a hard pick, or a nice hard foul as they are going up for a basket and hitting the dude.

except that he came out of the game immediately after because a) he was in foul trouble, and b) carlisle knows he's an emotional basketcase and had to get him out.

macho bravato

With your superior intellect and word-smithing nature, I'm surprised to see this. But then again, this is probably a set up. You knew I'd notice that and take the bait and comment on it. Thereby setting me up for your next wit induced retort. Land war in Asia, anyone?

Ahhhhh, NOW i get it! I was lost as to what that meant until I had some clarification/translation of Advanced NBA theory/history/terminology. Tell me more!

nah, just a dumb misspell... you caught me.

Also, you think Hayward doesn't know what he is doing? He is getting under players skin and making them emotionally react, hurting their team.

Hayward is going to continue to get treated like a bitch until he sticks up for himself in this league. Simple.

I think this is part of Haywards game. He's pissing guys off legitimately and getting them to react illegitimately. Afflalo is going to be a headcase next time they meet and Hayward will use that to get deeper under his skin.

I used to think Hayward was a soft little bitch. I still do but now I seem him using it to his advantage.

I would argue this (and I'm not at all advocating he punch anyone, or any of his teammates do that), I think a win win would be for him to turn around and laugh in Afflalo and West's face........or turn around and smile. Serves both purposes, IMO, in that is shows the players he's not soft and it will (continue, if thats the case already) get in the other players head. Just anything besides the "runaway with hands up, looking like he hopes a neighborhood mother will come save him". Again, dont want him to physically retaliate, ...........again, something like Reggie would do.

how is that different from what gordon did? got in starks' head over the course of a heated battle, provoked him, then walked away and let the refs administer justice.

(and that was in the 90s when fighting didn't carry such harsh penalties.)

Blah blah blah

Earl Watson. Sub him into the game, have him pick a fight with West. Earl will makes West cry more than Lebron when he found out the only difference between his mom and the Prime directive is that Delonte West never violated the Prime Directive.

Ref's blow a double T on both parties, Earl is still out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury, and Delonte causes drama that distracts and the Mav's get swept in round 1.

I don't see why this thread needs 8 pages to figure this out.

That's a great example to prove your point, in that it's pretty much what Hayward did. That's just one example though. Reggie was the master of getting in people's heads......maybe ever. So it's a bit of a stretch to compare Gordon to that.

I, personally, am not sold on the fact that Gordon is some sort of master genius and is fully, intentionally getting in players heads. I hope that's the case down the line though.
