If not Rubio then what?

The infatuation of some of you guys with Dante is amazing. Someone should make a study of it, seriously. A PG (supposedly) who can't run a team, is a below average passer, can't shoot, is barely average from the line, doesn't have great handles, won't rebound despite being 6-6, is way too passive, doesn't play smart, and on top of that is injury prone. "But he can defend, and he's fast". So what. He's not starting material in this league and he certainly isn't a PG four years into his career, injuries or not. Since they decided to re-sign him and invest 11M per year on him, the Jazz should focus on developing his 3-pt shooting (which has gone down every year, BTW) to try and open some lanes for him and play him at the 2 some 14-15 minutes per game. His defense is not consistent nor great enough to merit more than that, considering his approach to the game and overall lack of offensive skills.

We have too many bench role players and not enough starter quality. I don't think anybody is bad, but too many solid guys. We have so many of them that they can't get consistent time to become better than a bench role player.

Starter quality:
Gobert, Mitchell and Ingles

Bench role player:
Crowder (borderline starter)
Favors (would be starting C)
Rubio
Exum
Burks
O'Neale

We don't have the answer at PG (even Mitchell) unless we start O'Neale at SG almost completely for defense. We can't start Exum over Rubio because Exum isn't ready and I bet that pisses Rubio off (which I dont care about but we dont want to rattle the locker room).

It is a freaking shame we couldn't do better to build around Mitchell, Gobert and Ingles.

It's not as simple as he led us in scoring. He has become too ball dominant. His flaws mean opponents blanket Mitchell and Ingles so they can't even shoot.

It's like defending Westbrook for his point total in the playoffs despite his inability to get others involved.

He was joking, and it's not like that at all. Rubio had something like 12 points. He was highest scorer because everyone else had a horrible game.

If the Jazz falter this season they should draft Darius Garland 6'2" PG. He's a lights out shooter when open and has a super fast shot release, plus he's a great PG... I'm rather convinced he'd be a huge upgrade in Utah.

Seems kinda crazy that were here discussing drafting PG's high again tho...

So we can create one of the best shots in basketball but don’t make it at an average level... so it’s almost like if we added more shooting it’d solve a lot of our problems.

Watching him miss so many wide open shots is game after game is killing this season for me.

Come on man, “killing the season?”, aren’t you going a bit overboard?
The same thing happened last season during game threads, it went from how bad he sucks to why is he still in the bench? Let’s all be a bit patient while the team figures things out.

Talking about sucking, Allen is who needs to put in a lot of work still if he wants solid minutes, especially after last night’s performance.

I'm not sure why everybody is so hard on Grayson. Mitchell was dreadful to start last season but he had the minutes to play through his issues to become better. Grayson isn't as good as Mitchell, but it's unfair to him that people complain about him. He got called for two ticky tack fouls in the 2nd. He hit a long 3 right on his defender.

Grayson is fine in my opinion. Not like he was a lottery pick anyway.

Definitely one of the major storylines of the season so far

We owe it to Ingles and Gobert to not rely on another rookie project. We have enough projects. We need a proven commodity.

Agree. If PG is the play we need to be trading 1st round picks if needed to get an established guy.

At some point DL needs to own this and pivot from these guys he brought back. Fact is, a lot of this was thrown together after Benedict left, most of those guys (Royce, Rubio, Crowder, Thabo) played above what we would consider their average and since they have regressed this team is just meh.

So you're gonna bank on the 3 months Rubio could shoot The ball when there is 10yrs of evidence that he can't??
