What's new

If you could only listen to five songs for the rest of you life - What would they be?

I’ve listened to She’s Gone a million times. At times I’ve thought of it as an almost perfect song, they work together so well on it.
Agreed. Fantastic song. Tells a poignant story with flawless harmonies, great instrumentals, just such a good pop song. The long-play version is good too, but the rock&soul album version is much tighter and better lyrically. Great song. Would be in my top 5 songs for sure.

The section right at "spend eternity in the city" is just great song writing. I could do without the "Daddy tried to bore me with a sermon" part at the beginning, which is why I prefer the radio edit/rock& soul version. But this is just a great song. You can feel the longing and the lyrics carry the desperation so effectively. Add in the harmonies and it's just great.

And what gets buried in a lot of their music is the fact that Oates was a fantastic vocalist in his own right. Overshadowed by a transcendent vocalist in Darryl Hall. Great stuff through and through

So I'm waiting for someone at the airport and their flight was delayed so I'm listening to Big Bam Boom straight through.

"Dance on your knees!"

This is my favorite version. Just seems much tighter and professional really. Interestingly you can't find this version anywhere, like Pandora and I don't think Spotify either. Even on the album Rock & Soul Part 1 on Pandora it says that it isn't available for playback. Seems Hall and Oates have spoken than the longer original album version is the one they want you to listen to.
