Is it time to release the secret offensive weapon of the Utah Jazz?

Time to whip it out?

Funny thing is though that Memo's numbers were better in scoring, and almost identical to those of Gasol on rebounding...

.. and yet Gasol was able to win the Defensive Player of the Year award last year. Many commentators were "shocked". But I wasn't. Most NBA GM's and coaches would tell you, stats only tell part of the story.

nickkky was 5 years old when Memo came to the jazz. You'll have to forgive his ignorance (again).

See above.

1. Many CHAMPIONSHIP teams of the past 20 years have had a big who could spread the floor
2. Where is it written that Kanter is a Center and therefore disqualified from being our big that can spread the floor?
3. nickkk's last three or four posts in this thread are straightup retard mode.

I was against it at first, but it might be necessary. Favors is already down there, having two bigs within 15' leads to such a congested lane, and limits Hayward and Burks slashing ability.

This thread is specifically talking about a Center who shoots 3's.

Name me 1 Starting Center in a championship team who constantly jack up 3's.

wrong again. This thread is about Kanter shooting 3s.

here's the OP again for you:
The Enes Kanter 3 point shot. At first I thought no, we should wait until next year because it will hurt the tank. However, the Utah Jazz will have a top 5 pick no matter what and Jabari Parker is ranked about 5 or 6 on most draft boards currently and that is who the Jazz will likely select if they aren't a top 2 pick.

The Enes Kanter 3 point shot will open up the offense.

Btw this is my first thread (*cough* on this account *cough*) so please respond because I am an awesome guy.

So you can't name even 1 Center who jacks up 3 and leading his team to a Championship?

Not surprised.

Chris Bosh has been counted on to spread the floor for the Miami Heat the last two seasons, shooting from 18+ feet consistently (and jacking 37 3s in 23 playoff games in 2013).

Shooting 3s and grabbing offensive rebounds has absolutely nothing to do with individual defense.

Grabbing an offensive rebound is the best defensive play you can make in basketball because it stops the opponent from getting into an offensive possession in the first place. The best "cure" is "prevention" so to speak.

Again I'm not talking about Kanter's defensive ability, I'm talking about his position on the floor. By having your big jacking up 3's, he's not in a position to grab an offensive rebound, thereby hurting your team defensively.

I'm okay with him taking a couple 3s. I have no idea how good he is at it. But we have enough turnovers happening right now that I don't think it would hurt us much.

It is not a defensive play, it's a continuation of the offensive possession. If a big draws another big out of the paint, the offensive team can still send an extra wing player to the offensive glass. Since most finesse/shooting bigs aren't great offensive rebounders, this can often lead to a greater advantage on the offensive boards. Having Memo play in the paint, with the poor shooting wings the Jazz had, would have been a disaster.

Oh...and Chris Bosh.

and Dirk.

and Big Z.

and Rasheed Wallace.

Oh, you mean the starting center of the past two championship teams has been a three-point shooter? I'll be damned... that sorta makes nickkky look like an idiot.

Oh ****!!! I almost forgot that we have LeBron and Wade (who are elite rebounding machines for their positions) on our team!!!

So...you're saying that depending on personnel, having a big who spreads the floor can benefit your offense more than it hurts your offensive rebounding? Isn't that the opposite of what you've been arguing (that is, you've asserted that having a stretch big is necessarily detrimental to success/contention)?

Do you have any evidence that teams with stretch bigs perform worse on the offensive glass?
