Israel/US vs Iran et al.. War

This is all about Orange clown wanting Nobel prize. Create a non existent problem - attack Iran without congress approval, then declare peace and claim he is a best peace maker ever, then go hysterical when peace is not happening and missiles keep flying to both Israel and Iran. Just typical orange turd circus.

As far as trinkets go Nobel Prizes are pretty plain. We used to have one on display at work, it looks like the medal you get for 3rd best cow in show at the local fair.

******** Barbie keeps bullshiting. Anybody can see nuclear site photos before and after strikes. Yeah few holes and craters are visible in the ground but nothing resembling total obliteration. You would expect a crater massive size after 30.000 pound bombs lol... not few tiny holes. Even if they were suppose to detonate deep under the ground.

My guess would be there is substantial underground damage, my guess is that the facility underground would probably be the size of a city block. What I was surprised not to see was evidence of a substantial fire.

And the dictator's attack on the media continues apace, exactly in line with the fascist handbook and as employed by history's strongest fascist dictators, Mussolini and Hitler. Trump is DESPERATE to have his name uttered in the same sentence as those 2. Hitler, Mussolini, and Trump. In his mind, the greatest leaders of all time.

It still continues to amaze me that so much of this country likes this type of behavior or just doesn’t give af about it. It shouldn’t be partisan to want a grown adult be president. Yet… here we are. Everyone must suffer because whittle Donny wasn’t ever told by his daddy that he was loved.

Like it’s truly a remarkable thing what Fox News and the right wing echo chamber have created. George Orwell would be so impressed by the alternative reality bubble that republicans live in these days. To keep viewers ignorant of so much and to constantly spin Donald’s “leadership” as being admirable and strong. It really is a triumph in social engineering, a complete mind ****ing that dictatorships in the past could’ve only dreamed of.

Well everything in modern life has become orders of magnitude more efficient than they were 100 years ago. So of course the brainwashing of a people is also orders of magnitude more efficient, as long as you know how to use the tools for that purpose. Luckily for them, Facebook, Google, et al have almost 2 full decades of experience writing the algorithms that do just that, control people's behavior. We live in a perfect storm of deregulation and advanced brainwashing techniques the likes of which the world has never seen before. Maybe this will lead to our nuclear apocalypse.

Kind of puts the Fermi Paradox in a new light and might give us the basic limit of civilization self-destruction, right when they cross the information-age threshold.

I dunno i would have thought that the fracturing of media would make it harder?

The sheer speed at which they can counter any narrative or drive any narrative home to unprecedented numbers of people in a way that takes advantage of the algorithms Facebook and Google use, gives them unimaginable access to the minds of millions of humans across the globe in seconds, something no one in the previous century ever even dreamed of. And the fracturing of media makes it much much easier since they can push a united message where the "opposition" can barely keep up since they are the ones fractured.

Hmmm I still think it takes time, the three people I know who have definitely changed their politics to some extent over the last 5 years are people who spend a lot of time online. One of the guys i worked with become completely radicalised online and is now a member and supporter of the far right, goes to rallies etc. has basically lost all of his friends. Another dude from work, his wife was mostly housebound she has become a leading organiser on the far right. My ex girlfriend who doesn't have TV and spends a heap of time on YouTube, started referring to her as a conservative woman, started hating on the gay community, in the 20 or so years I'd known her she'd never shown much of any interest in politics and would tell me to chill out when I'd rant about it.

The common thread was they all spent a heap of time online.

Well yeah everything takes some time. And it takes an underlying basis of prejudice to tap into, but the sheer scope of access is unrivaled even from 20 years ago. Let alone 100 years ago. Then it took devastating social upheaval in the form of the end of a world war and the nearly immediate onset of the worst financial crisis the world has ever seen to get people to strip themselves of any decency and accept that the Jews are the enemy. Here it's happening in the midst of unprecedented worldwide prosperity, spurred on by a noted lack of existential crises. Which may be proving to be a much more fertile landscape for this kind of prejudice, as we are kind of hardwired to look for existential crises, and we are exceptionally good at fabricating them when the real thing doesn't fit the bill or is simply non-existent.

I agree and disagree, yes the Nazi's tapped into existing prejudice. In terms of the current crisis and this idea of unprecedented wealth, globalisation and the economic changes of the last 40 years has created the most uneven distribution of wealth since the 30s. It was ok for society when these pressures for the most part were carried by the working poor and the working class, what we have seen in the last 15 to 20 years, is these same forces squeezing the middle class and the petty bourgeoise, these people are better educated and resourced and have been exploited by the right with the same old tropes, foreigners, targeted religious classes (Muslims) and the old boogeyman of socialism, (a threat to their meagre property)

Lies and sensationalism spread MUCH faster than the boring old facts and reality on social media. Plus there's no special dopamine hit when you just say "yeah, I guess the experts got this" compared to "I know this one special thing the experts don't want me to know." We're all just Pavlov's dogs at the end of the day.
