What's new

Game Thread Jan 17, 2022 08:30PM MT: Jazz at Lakers

The system is there. The playbook is there. Fire Quin and let Alex Jensen audition for the rest of the year. I think firing the guy on top may be the only thing to get through the seriousness of this into the players’ heads.

Meh, not a game to overreact. Jazz shot terrible, Gobert couldn't get some rebounds and looked gassed, B2B, limited Conley minutes. Jazz still held Lakers to 100, there were some terrible sequences defensively but if the Jazz got one of Bogey, Clarkson, Gay or Mitchell going they would probably win.

I've defended the team all season, have not been worried about bad performances and thrown away games. But this game worries me. The jazz don't know how to play in crunch time. they have no idea what to do unless they are hitting shots. they threw this game away. The team runs around like a chicken with its head cut off in crunch time. They don't seem to have any idea what to run, who to give the ball to. We have all these ball-handlers and they just take turns bricking it or turning it over in crunch time. If the Jazz can't win unless they are hitting shots, we're toast. No hustle from this team. Everyone, including Gobert, just standing around waiting for someone else to do something. Our roster fills awfully small when they play like this--it just seems like we don't have that many guys to go to.

We are in a brutal part of our schedule. It's pretty clear we're going to lose a lot of games.

I think Utah needs to do everything it can to get rid of our two worst ball-handlers for...really anyone who can had some versatility to the roster. This was the most discouraging game of the season by far.
Gobert was definitely sub-par this game, but he's trying to do stuff in crunch time. He's getting great position and sealing. The ball-handlers got to move the ball or break the paint and pass/score. The Jazz can't hold the ball til there is 8 seconds left on the shot clock before anything happens.

I just can't understand why Quin stuck with JC so long in the second half when he was struggling so badly.
Because it was a B2B and they are trying to keep Mike's minutes managed. Problem is Quin seemingly trust no one on the team and Ingles is too out of shape/old to play major minutes on B2B's either, so he is kind of left with Clarkson only.

The result is the problem. The reminder of what kind of coach Quin is is the problem.

I have no idea why Quin accepts his players protecting their percentages and not put up shots when you have 2+ seconds left when hitting a shot will actually matter. This is loser-ball ********.
The lack of urgency to get an extra shot off at the end of the 3rd quarter was a perfect example of what's wrong with this team. If Quin won't hold players accountable for this kind of garbage, it's time for a coaching change.

Or perhaps try something different after multiple trips with terrible execution.
