Jaren Jackson Jr. traded to the Jazz

I think thats a completely fair concern. We are #2 in the league in assists though, and that has a lot to do with how we play, not about the "passing talent" we have.

But there is risk that too much falls on Keyonte once Kessler takes Nurks spot in the starting lineup. I hope Kessler has been paying attention watching Nurks DHO actions... The backdoor passes and bounce passes to cutters are not the toughest passes/reads but Nurk does them so well.
Ya and Kessler was doing some of those passes this season before the injury

First of all, the Jazz aren't giving up this year's FRP.
Second of all, the players the Jazz gave up aren't consequential.
Thirdly, the picks the Jazz gave up in '27 are probably both in the 20s.
The only wildcard is the '31 PHX pick, which is a mystery box in 5 years.

Memphis dumped JJJ's salary, and the Jazz were willing to take it.
You can't just take the assets we gave up at face value. Our chance of retaining this year's first reduced significantly with the acquisition of JJJ. So does our chance of bringing back Kess in the summer. If we gave Walker his extension, that'd be well over 150mil spent on our starting front court alone. Then what about the Key's looming extension? What money do we have left to address our deficiency in passing and perimeter defense? This JJJ deal basically capped our ceiling to a top heavy/perennial playin team that couldn't get out of the first round. Worse than that DM/Rudy team.

When we have our first at the end of the year, I want you to make a public apology thread with lessons that you’ve learned.

Another thing I like about this is that we still have a lot of future flexibility. We can give this group a go in 27' and 28'. At that point, if it's not working, JJJ and Lauri should still command solid trade returns. We could theoretically pivot to a team centered on Key and Ace (and possibly our 26' draft pick) as they are entering their primes.

Exactly what Ainge tried to do in Boston before Kyrie’s brain and Hayward’s leg both took a turn for the worst.

Some odd thoughts:
  • Jazz FO showed that they don't regard tanking/playing the odds as equal to (or even by-far-the-most-important component of) rebuilding. I'm sure they still hope to keep the pick. And while I think they'll probably do so, I think the odds for a top 4 pick has gone down a bit. The "big game hunting" was probably always part of the strategy (depending on when they found a deal they liked).
  • Austin Ainge showed that he's willing to move off of his draft pick quickly. Everyone said that Clayton was AA's pick. Jazz even gave up a pick to go get him. I guess this is a good sign.
  • I think it's also good that they moved off over-hyped future picks. The LA and PHO picks were a bet that looked a lot better at the time, but the prospects changed rather quickly. The Jazz, I think, realized that they they didn't need to hang on to them now. Maybe they determined that the strategy of "controlling another team's picks" that DA used so effectively in Boston was more of a lucky strike than a fool-proof strategy.
  • RIP Hendricks in Jazz imaginations. I recall watching him against both MEM and MIN this year and thought it was clear how far he was from either a McDaniels (lacking quickness) or a JJJ (lacking effective size, scoring ability, interior presence). I had been holding out hopes (and still hope his career blossoms), but he seemed like a rather poor man's version of both.

umm. it may be a flawed roster (we'll see) but that's too pessimistic

Timing is always forced by the market. You cant go shopping when teams arent selling, unless you wanna pay double prices.

Memphis decided their fire sale starts now, and we jumped on that opportunity.
Good post

I like Keyonte and he's made a huge jump this year... but if Keyonte is the guy, we are going nowhere...

I’m way behind on this thread because I was golfing but this is just stupid comment his biggest weakness is defense and JJJ can cover that up and if you compare his third year stats to any of the best guards in the league right now they are very very similar
