Jazz acquire Novak from Raptors

He's not a terrible pickup for a team that's going to lose the next two years, anyway. We need a guy who can hit threes, so there's that. But tough trade to get excited for. Expensive second round draft pick. Would have liked to get a little more.

I get the feeling there like aren't many first rounders being floated for 3 million in salary relief.

Any thoughts on if this signals that the Jazz are tanking again this year?

Not that I'm pro-tanking but, is it worth tanking this season? Asking because, I don't know much about the 2015 draft class and I hope we are done with tanking.

This was a good pickup that fills some needs.
A veteran spot up 3 point shooter.
Some salary filler. Jazz have to get to the minimum.
Another draft pick.
Can still make some more moves.
Can still keep E Murphy and Thomas.

We are going to not only overpay this pathetic scrub this year, but also next year as well - 3.5 mil wasted. And for what - a 2nd round pick? This makes no sense at all. If we are taking 7 mil worth of garbage on our books, there had better be at least a first round pick involved. Seems like a pretty bad move for DL.

Can you show me a salary dump in NBA history when a team picked up a first round pick for $3.5M per year? That would be quite extraordinary. Extraordinarily stupid for the team giving up the first.

In my opinion, this trade shouldn't be getting anybody excited. Novak is a "keep-gettin-dem-checks" kind of guy. I hope they know he's a good locker-room presence, because that'll be his biggest influence on the team's performance.

The only point of this trade that piques my interest is the clear signal it sends about our relationship to the three-point line. That's nice.

*shrug* Jazz signed Kyle Korver when Sloan was still the coach.
