Jazz Get 21st Overall Pick

Look at 1:46 of this video where he stays with the guard on a drive from above the foul line and contests a shot near the baseline.

Then look at the defensive sequence at 2:25 where he contains the guard and prevents the shot.

This is what his defense looks like now, and he can improve his mobility once he gets in the league.

Are you serious? At 1:46 he handchecks the **** out of the guard and still gets blown by. Chris Chiozza isnt a NBA player so he cant turn the corner after getting mauled.

2:25 he doesnt contain anything. He is playign drop PNR coverage and the guy he is guarding isnt good. Any NBA guard just steps back for the wide open 3. That's an example of why he cant guard. He is giving up so much space, but it's college basketball so you dont get burnt with that.

Both these examples are him playing center and dropping back in the PNR.

You call him Markieff, but he is closer to moving like Nikola Jokic.

Not sure where the Morris comparison comes from, Jontay is huge compared to him.

Warming up a bit to the idea of Bates-Diop, not a sure thing by any means, but if he worked out he could be a great fit here.

My favorite outcome is still a Shamet/Clark draft though (Clark's been hitting from deep in the PIT, 5/9 from three over two games).

Dude, I don't mind a heated debate, but you're trolling here. Porter lists as a forward, plays as a forward, and gets by defending in space. He's not going to be an All-Pro defender, but he shouldn't be such a liability being on the floor with an interior big. He'll be a passable defender. If you don't think he can play next to a rim-protecting 5, then there's no point drafting him at all. He'd just be a 10 minute-a-night back-up to Rudy, and we already have Tony Bradley for that.

How do you feel about Lauri Markkanen playing at the 4? He's been playing on the perimeter next to Robin Lopez all season for Chicago. Lauri isn't an ideal defender out on the floor, but he's enough of an obstacle defensively that the pros outweigh the cons.

Lets see how teams evaluate Porter, whether he's capable of playing off a 5. Til then we can agree to disagree.

You are the only person trolling here if you think Porter can play 4 in the modern NBA. There are always the few uninformed people who will look at Porter in college and saw he played PF then say he is a PF, but I wouldnt listen to those people. 95% of educated draft writers/thinkers dont think Jontay can be a 4.

And yeah, I'm not a fan of drafting Porter in the first round.

Markkanen is a much better athlete than Porter, and no I don't like Markkanen as a 4 either. Lauri can get away with it tho due to his better athleticism and much better shooting/release point/speed.

You literately showed two clips of Jontay playing PNR defense w/ drop coverage, like a center and doing it poorly. You pointed out a clip of him handchecking as proof he could be a 4. And you are saying I'm trolling?

I know the big names but not much about who will be available at our pick. So I’ll jusy trust the dudes who seem like they know what they’re talking about here (Cy nailed the Kuzma thing so he has good credibility for the time being) I had never heard Donovan’s Mitchell’s name before when we picked him. Although I did fall in love right away.

I think the Jazz will take a serious look at Porter for the 21st pick and it will be to play him significant minutes next to Gobert. If they come to the same conclusion as you that he's a defensive liability and can't defend the 4, they probably won't draft him. Will be very interesting to see.
